Is this £10 on GiffGaff much cop? Any hidden 'nasties'?

http://giffgaff.com/goodybags/10pound-goodybag

I've seen a bit of talk on GiffGaff but haven't paid it too much attention tbh.

I'm currently with o2 on their text & web package. I don't really use my phone for calling. I have done but it's fairly rare.

For £10month on o2, i get:
300 texts (don't go over this)
500mb data (don't go over this).

It'd be nice to have the extra of calls - even if it was just 100 minutes.

Looking at that GiffGaff offer, i get a better deal.

I just am a bit concerned....

Is there any catch i haven't seen?
Does the data get used differently? Will that 1GB get swallowed up rapid? As said, i don't touch 500mb on o2, but i don't know if it'll be different with GiffGaff.

Then there's the signal - i believe they operate on the o2 network. Does this mean i'll get EXACTLY the same 2G -AND- 3G reception through GiffGaff?

I know the saying "if something sounds too good..." but i can't spot any problems.

Giffgaff are fine. The £10 goody bag offers excellent value, and from what you've said, will be perfect for you.

They use the O2 network and so your reception should be pretty much the same.
  • Been with them for over a year now, no problems at all. Son uses the £10 goody bag you've mentioned. He originally had the £12 one but Giff Gaff pointed out that he wasn't using all the data allowance and suggested he went down to the £10 one.

Giffgaff are expensive for a virtual network. You can get much better deals elsewhere.

For example, with Ovivo, you get 100 minutes, 100 texts and 300mb free each month. If you need more than this, you can buy addition bundles.

If you top up by £10 on 3 consecutive months, the free allowance is permanently increaed to 150 minutes, 150 texts and 400mb.

If you topup on a further 3 consecutive months, the free allowance is increaed to 200 minutes, 200 texts and 500mb. If this is all you need each month, then won't need to topup ever again.

Giffgaff can hardly be called expensive. There are maybe a couple of cheaper deals for light users, but that's about it. If you're a smartphone owner they are just about the best available I think.

Virgin Sim Only is worth looking at. 30 day rolling contract. £7/mth gets you:

    150 mins
    unlimited texts
    500mb data

Or, if you are happy with a 12 month commitment, there's 3 Sim Only. £6.90/mth gets you

    200 mins
    Unlimited texts
    500mb data

BUT there is £43 cashback available on TCB/Quidco which effectively makes the deal £3.31/mth net.

Mrs F. has been on the £10 giffgaff goodybag for almost 6 months now with no issues whatsover. However, isn't there a Virgin 30-day SIM only deal with unlimited internet - Millicent?
