TESCO iPhone sim rip off

I joined Tesco recently and had an old phone with normal Sim.

Now, I've got iPhone 5 which needs a Nano Sim.

I'm currently paying £7.50/month and when I asked for a Nano Sim they told me that I should upgrade my tariff to £10/month!

Or I should pay around £70 to terminate my 12 months contract!

None of other networks charges for Sim size change or changing your tariff because you've got an iPhone!

I don't know how to solve this :(

You use the word "should" ?

Did they say they can't or wouldn't be able to supply a Nano sim unless you upgrade ...what reason did they give and who did you speak to ?

They are prob just trying to get you to upgrade to a SIM deal with more data as you now have an iphone. No need.

    OR....

How the hell can Orange do this?

That said, forcing you to change the tariff is certainly wrong. Demand the call to be escalated, then complain.

Failing that, I think any sim can be cut (and grinded) to a nano size with some DIY skills.

Maybe as you're going to be using an iPhone, they are wanting you to move to an iPhone package, which would include a more generous internet allowance I'm sure.

The chatting agent quickly offered to send me a Nano Sim and asked for my mobile number. Then he said that I am on "Smartphones" tariff and I should upgrade to iPhone 5 Nano Sim, or I can use it as PAYG Sim! and didn't say why the price is higher for nano sim.

Sorry for confusing you with "Should". I told him what if I want to leave Tesco? He said I should pay £70 to cover the rest of the contract period.

It is obvious that the data allowance in iPhone Nano Sim package is more than the one I've got now. but I'm happy with what I've got and don't want to pay more!

Three is offering a 12 month package for iPhone for £6.90, that is cheaper than Tesco.

    *UPDATE* *UPDATE* *UPDATE*

I just chatted with another agent and asked why the price of iPhone 5 is higher?

    This was the answer:
"The reason is iPhone5 is the most expensive handset among all iPhones, so the tariff rates also do differ."

can you believe this BS! You've got an iphone then you have more money!

Every little helps to fill Tesco pocket

I think the first thing I would do is just ring up and ask for a replacement nano sim.

If they say they can't I would cut the sim I have down to a nano ....if you were unsure of doing it you could have a practice on a couple of spares before you do it

This thread on giff gaff shows it done as an example

If you are happy with your existing tariff, then simply cut down your sim to a nano sim, simple and easy! I recently changed to 500 mins 5000 texts and 1gb data for £10, it is not a dedicated iphone deal, but the assistant in my local Tesco store, called customer services and asked if I could use it on an iphone nano sim, to which they replied Yes no problem and promptly transfered me.

Thanks Silk for the link, I will consider this if not succeeded in making Tesco send me nano sim for the current tariff.

burnsguitarman, so you suggest going to Tesco mobile store? or ask them on the phone?
