Kwik Fit prices & offers, they don't honor offers, I won't use again

Be careful with Kwik Fi prices & offers - they don't honor

I've used kwik fit for the last four cars for servicing & MOTs & any other jobs.

Kwik Fit rang me in November to say your MOT & annual service are due, would you like to re-book, we can offer you 20% off servicing & 50% off the MOT.
I asked how much it would be, they said it would depend on the service.
So I booked in for Yesterday.

Brought my car in at 8.30am, as requested. I asked them how much the service would be, they were very rushed with lots of people trying to book in. The assured me whatever was agreed on the system would be what I was charged. They said they would call me when it was ready & most probably my car would be ready about lunch time.

At 4.10 I hadn't heard from them, so I went in. They said another half an hour. I went back at 5.10 & it still wasn't ready. I hung about about for a while, eventually they came out with the bill. They did honor the 20% off the service, but not the 50% off the MOT.
To make it worse the manager tried to distance himself & his shop from offers made on the phone/internet - bearing in mind Kwik Fit called me, I didn't call them!!!
The manager wanted me to pay & sort it out with "them", I insisted he was part of "them". He gave me the customer service number & I called them on my mobile, he wouldn't call them on the shop phone.............
They started talking about the phone bookers as being a "them" too!!!! What is it with Kwik Fit? They seem to think they are independent single outlets rather than a chain!
If they tender out their booking service they cannot distance themselves from offers made.
Unfortunatly I had cinema tickets booked (& paid for) for 5.45 & I couldn't carry on arguing with them.

I told them to keep their £17.50, but they have lost a lifetime customer & I would give them their £17.50 back in shedloads of bad (truthful) publicity:money:
The manager then decided to apply a £10.00 descretionary deduction, so the overcharge was £7.50 in the end.

But no way should I have had to kick up such a stink & they should have rung head office for me on their phone, when they were trying to overcharge me.

Disgusting attiutude all round from Kwik Fit & a service that took twick the time quoted & kept me hanging around & waiting.

Use at your peril, I suggest you get "quote" in writing & don't TRUST them to honor their offers:(

  • What you you expect with them?

I wouldn't let them touch any of my cars.
  • I would never use kwik fit for any work on one of my cars... but... The breakdown cover I've had for the past 4 years has been amazing!

Kwik Fit have a representative who frequents this forum sometimes. Can't remember the exact username but you might want to try a forum member search, PM them and point them to this thread. They might decide to sort it out for you.

As a side note, I bought a battery from them years ago that after a few weeks became stubborn about holding its charge. Manager at the branch despite being very helpful in the past refused to honour the warranty even though the supplier he'd have to deal with was literally around the corner.

I've never bothered going back there since.

I expected to pay the price they quoted for the MOT & service. I accept any extras are extra (I had to pay for a bulb) but I expected them to charge me what they offered for the basics.

You're lucky they didn't do extra work [*] and charge you for it.

No, I wouldn't let them touch my car if it was all for free, and it was just an inspection like the MOT. They'd still find a way to get me to pay and the car would probably be worse when I got it back.

[*] on unrelated perfect components, which they promptly break.
  • The thing with those chain garages is that unless their manufacturer approved garages they're full of inexperienced/underpaid staff. Any mechanic worth his salt would make more money setting up his/her own business. The cost of setting up a garage isn't huge - if money is tight you can always partner up with another mechanic and split the cost.

Kwikfit is full of lads (and girls) who are young/fresh out of college who dont have the means or experience to set up their own shop.

As a woman I've always found them more female friendly then your usual independent garage. Plus they used to, or I used to think they had, a clear pricing structure.
  • After my recent experience with Merityre I have come to realise that chains like Merityre and Kwick-fit really don't offer good value.

I'm going to go to independents from now on.

Did they ever quote you a price for the service? Bit confused by that but you sound happy enough, what did they actually do though?

As for the MOT. Thier online adverts say £27.42 as a 50% discount so the £35 you were charged is well over that.

The official test fee is just over £54 https://www.gov.uk/mot-test-fees but garages can offer a discount if they like.

Just not sure how they have been working it all out. Mind, it seems you now paid less than the official 50% off price.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

There's a reason their MOTs and services are so cheap. They'll overcharge/tell you more work needs doing to make up the cash. Kwik-Fit would do MOT and full service on my car for something like £75-100. Took it the most trusted independent specialist in my city and MOT and full service cost £250, was advised of a couple of bits that were unnecessary at the moment but told you keep an eye on, no air sucking through teeth.

I had my last car mot'ed and serviced with them before I got rid. Passed MOT flying colours, but the service 'recommendations' were two pages long and came to £800! Took it to Merc dealer and they couldn't fathom it!
