Over the past few months I managed to price freeze my electric until November 2016, signed up to a new contract for free weekend and evening calls before the deadline or I would have been charged £3.50 per month(must make a note to sort this out again next September) and managed to renew my mobile contract for a reduced payment from my last contract and get a new phone(only a basic one as I just need it for calls and texts) and can use the internet. Have managed to pay off my mortgage. Now planning to save for my future as I wish to move away from the area where I am now living. This will be a long term goal.Frugal Living Challenge 2025 Mortgage free as of 1st August 20130

Thinking ahead to plan a frugal weekend this weekend. On the one hand I won't be doing much. I went back to work on Wed but am still not back to full health and now my throat is really sore. So the main plan for the weekend is to relax and keep warm in the house - I have discovered the The Waltons is on at the weekend on True Entertainment channel so this will keep me entertained while I lie on the couch! However, I think I do need to buy a cough bottle of some description - trying to keep it cheap so will stick to honey and lemon and will also have hot blackcurrant etc.
OH is in charge of the food so this is a bit of a danger spot. I will plan the food with him and we can make a list together which should keep costs down.0 -
Thank you All, for the advice and nice welcome! I'm looking forward to creating my budget and sticking to it!
Allie23 -try thyme tea for your throat. Simply infuse a spoonful of thyme from your kitchen cupboard for a few minutes. My Mum uses it and it's proven to be very helpful for her! Take care x6mo EF: £ /£

Allie23,hope you feel better soon.
 evuka, welcome to this challenge, good luck with planning your budget.
I am still continuing with this challenge saving where I can. It has helped me to spend less after starting to withdraw a set amount of money (£30) every week for my weekly bus pass and the rest is my spending money. That used to be my weakness to keep withdrawing money and then wondering where it all went.
Earlier this year I set up a dd to go out on the 1st every month to my savings account, when I looked at my statement earlier this month I was surprised to see that I had over £600 in the account.
We have nearly bought all our Christmas present already which feels great.
Good luck to you all with this challengeNo toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23

Hi All, well I am starting to feel almost human again. Back at work and I am so tired that I keep saying one thing when I mean another, using the wrong words for things. Thankfully all my lovely classes are being very understanding!
I have a few bits and bobs to finish up for Christmas this month but I have most of the presents in and wrapped. I need to get some small things for work - not sure if they are doing a secret santa this year.
I am starting to think about my goals for 2014 and need to get an annual budget planned for that. Hope everyone is well and haivng a good week.0 -
