    Just read an interesting piece about why the tube will probably never have full automation.

    In essence all current fully automated metro lines ( including DLR) have been engineered with this in mind, the tube wasn't and it cannot be reverse engineered to the extent required.

    Tunnel ventilation, the open stretches of track and fleet renewal are all issues.

    Much of the tube dates from Victorian times. So hardly surprsing.
