New scam - beware

For me, the key issue is/was 'we need your PIN number' - Get lost!!

Having said that, its perfectly possible to fall for such a scam coming 'out of the blue' (I'd like to think I wouldn't!) and there should be some sympathy for victims of it.

A while ago, where I live in Sweden, there was a slightly different scam involving some guy phoning saying he was from Microsoft and he believed I had a virus on my computer. He needed me to download some software - which (I now know from some victims) was malware.

I told him the computer was still booting up and went back to watching the TV! 20 minutes later, I returned to the phone meaning to say there was a problem - but the line was dead. The Swedish phone company said the call came from India.

    Trust your intuition

My husband nearly fell for one of those scam calls the other day. I think it must have been the first time he'd got one because he turned to me and asked "have we had any problems with the computer lately?" I said " no it's a scam call, hang up." "Well I'll just check with (our son) just to be sure," "there's no need, it's a scam, HANG UP NOW!"
But no, he had to go and check with our son who said the same thing I did and he did eventually hang up but honestly, if he falls for a scam call again after that he's only got himself to blame.

I didn't sneer at you or anyone when I explained the Treasury data regarding Scots finances to you. Phnar phnar.

I think you may find it is spelt "fnar fnar" and I would suggest that definition 1 may apply in your case. :p:p

To the best of my recollection, 'tis always "fnar fnar" when uttered by Finbar Saunders in the pages of that periodical known as Viz.

How often does a Detective Chief Inspector phone a crime victim to notify them they've been the victim of a, relatively minor, crime?

NB relative to crimes of violence etc.

My sympathy is for his banks who have to fund his stupidity. No insurance company would pay up in these circumstances.

I think that you're still sore about having your notions about Scotland corrected for you. Phnar phnar! And a Merry Phat Christmas to you!
