Car for dogs

paddedjohn - what about a Fiat BARKetta? Maybe not.
Anyway, how about a Merc B-Class - we're looking at replacing a small van that's been turned into a car with something a little more classy - the estates mentioned don't have the height. We're getting into 'soft - roader' territory too. Subaru Forester?0 -
I think most dogs prefer automatics as it can sometimes be a struggle to reach the pedals.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

A DOGge Viper? A PAWsche 911? A Nissan LEASH?
Ahem.
Seriously though, the Subarus are a good call....tres reliable, and quite cool in that SAABy way.0 -
I would like to change my car, currently have a Citreon Berlingo, very basic but lots of room for my dogs.
I now would like a car with a little more refinement but still with room for dogs and passengers with long bodies.
Can anyone suggest anything?
Honda Jazz gives a big flat floor area from the tailgate to the backs of the front seats when the rear seats are folded down. Our lurcher likes it.0 -
My parents got a BMW 1 series cabriolet when they got a dog, he seems happy with that.0

Skoda Octavia Estate, one of the most comfortable cars I've driven and I'm 6'5". We had one as a hire car a couple of years ago to drive up to Scotchland and I couldn't fault it. The MPG was good too and we didn't hang about. :cool:0

I vouch for this entirely, or a Ford Mondeo Estate/Galaxy, as most of the models come with dark windows.
We ran a 1999 Octavia company car to 1.6 million miles in 12 years (still in daily use, just not as a taxi). All it had was a new drivers seat and a turbo at about 1.2m. The only reason I've got rid of it is because the council wouldn't re-plate as it's 12 years old.
Some of the older Galaxies we bought from the airport company are upto 350k now with no problems (all '07' or '57', so new shape), and these share the platform with the Mondeo and S-Max.

I was in an Octavia taxi that had done 390,000 miles. It was the most revolting germ infested plague carrier that I'd ever sat in (and I've sat in a few of them) but gave the impression that the engine would continue to drive cockroaches around after a nuclear holocaust.
I think though that although the boot and space in the back is big on the hatchback, the hatch is really slopey, so the dogs would struggle for head height.0
