Why is my internet speed drastically reduced?

I am on the new Virgin 30mb too and since the upgade from 10mb to 30mb the speed droped to a crawl during the evenings for 30-60mins.
In November each day for 2 weeks. I would wait to get through on the fault line. I would do the same tests (as if first to see if they could blame my computer/settings). One day they found some packet data loss so I got put through to the next test level but by this time the speed would be back to normal so it was hard to get them to admit to an issue.
After research and a few phone calls the best explanation I could get is they are fitting some new hardware or capacity in Jan or Feb and its due to a high peak demand.
They actually say they provide speed UP TO 30mb so even at 0.3mb it is still a service.
OK its a pain but I am waiting to see if it does settle down in the new year and dont use it much around 6-8pm any more. At other times its really good.:j0
