Buying fish and a tank

do you have a specialised aquatic place near you (I don't mean Pets at Home)?
Many places have people who work there and are passionate about fish and will happily give you advice about the best tank for you and what fish you should put together.
If you are thinking tropical, you can get some nice barbs or tetras that can be colourful and will swim together and won't grow too big.0 -

I think they "suffer" in the sense that they get sick and die, but I don't believe they're overly aware of that suffering - or at least any moreso than my basil plant is aware that it's "suffering" from some kind of insect infestation and occasional over-watering.
I'm sorry you're inclined to insult me because of this.
Ah, an argument long used by animal labs to inflict pain and suffering on all sorts of animals...Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -

TBH . Plants are living creatures reacting to their environment and predators within. When a plant is under attack from an animal or insect or probably fish for that matter , it may send out messages to the immediate vicinity. For example http://www.viewzone.com/plants.html and many other similar links can be googled. We as humans should act as stewards of our envrionment, treating nature with the utmost respect and care as, Froglet undoubtedly is a very strong proponent of. Nethertheless, i have no problem in treating animals, plants and fish as a food source and will continue to do so until i expire. Interestingly enough as a Christian , i believe one day even the lifeless stones will cry out in praise to the maker : Luke 19:40. Happy Christmas to all Pets and their owners on this forum."if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

Lol, that link is amazing.
This made me chuckle so hard:One of the most important things that Backster discovered was that, instead of going ballistic, plants that find themselves in the presence of overwhelming danger simply become catatonic! This phenomenon has posed endless problems for those researchers who, unlike Backster, do not respect the sentience of their subjects. Under such circumstances, the plants they are studying evince no reaction whatsoever. They simply "check out."0 -

I know i will never change the world reference eating animals and fish. But i do at least believe that man has an obligation to reduce their pain and suffering to the least amount possible. That I WILL campaign about.
Exploitation of animals happens in many ways, not just in the food chain.Though i take care of my plants in the garden and my ponds i would rather see them die off from a plant disease than risk the health of my fish and birds/hedgehogs etc by spraying them with chemicals or putting down slug pellets.0 -
I don't know about plants, but I personally think it's ethically difficult to be vegetarian and yet still consume dairy products.0

I have tropical fish and the best inhabitants of my tank are actually not fish. I have tropical frogs (proper name African Dwarf Clawed Frogs) and whenever I show visitors the tank these are what they love to look at.
In respect of fish mollys are cheap and so much fun.Graduated 16 July 2013 with First Class Honours :jHouse Deposit: £6,493.10 - Cashback Total: £447.670 -
