Someone drove into my rear and drove off.

Out today and gave way to a bus when a silver car drove into my rear at about 50mph, we thought he would pull over but he just drove off at speed...due to all that was going on all we know was that it was a silver car...we have gave statements to the police...he has caused a lot of damage,
Aviva has said we can wait to see if the car and driver can be traced or pay £550 excess and claim off my own insurance and also lose 2 years no claims...both my wife and me ended up in A & E with brusing and whiplash...what should we do can can we claim against our own company for personal injury...Thanks

  • Straight in with the PI claim.

If the other vehicle isn't traced the passenger can claim.

If it hit you at 50 I'm surprised it was drivable and it didn't leave the front plate behind.

Your company will only pay for injuries to others, it won't cover the driver. It might cover the passenger (but I'm not sure about that)

Silver BMW doesn't narrow it down a lot, do you have anything else? Even a part reg would help. If not then get on to any CCTV operators in the area PDQ

Being hit at 50 mph would quite often be fatal - cannot see how he could have driven away after that - this is a 50mph crash:

Front plate? At 50mph I'm surprised he didn't leave the engine behind.

If the op was doing 30 in the same direction, the damage clearly wouldn't be so severe.
Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.

OP states he was 'giving way to a bus' which suggests in fact he was stationary or moving very slowly. No way could a car hitting the OP's car at 50 mph be able to continue afterwards. In fact, I would be extremely surprised that the OP escaped with just bruising and whip lash following such an impact.

I am sorry but it felt as if the car was doing 50...we just seemed to get hit with such force....we were moving about 10mph to let the bus out..i just feel so mad...this car is only 12 months old and it is the first car that i have ever been able to afford from new and i am 54, sometimes i just think is it all worth it.

    Act fast - Think smart.

Many busses have several cctv cameras.
I think a fair few have sat tagging showing how far they are away from the next stop etc.
If you gave way and he then hit you and drove past you and presuming the speeds, the bus as well.

Therefore if you know where you were and at what time the crash happened you should be able to narrow down the bus.

This may well give you rear camera footage of the crash, and front camera footage of the car and its plate.

Not sure how long they keep the footage for so would act fast.
