My partners company still does Xmas bonuses and Xmas Parties, as well as a Summer Bonus and Summer Party etc. On top of that, monthly bonuses for hitting targets.

Unfortunately, their business is benefiting hugely from the recession etc. So I imagine a few of you could actually guess what she does, although she's probably in the "nicest" part of it, if you can call it that.

Haulage company - £100.00 bonus + bottle/crate of choice. We've never done a meal type thing as everyone is out at different times and someone is bound to miss out.

TBH, it seems quite a lot when you multiply it up and pay it out at once and we wince, but if you think of it spread out over the year, it doesn't seem a bad deal.

My previous admin job the company had a large christmas party plus bottles of wine for each employer.

Previous care companies - home care or care home have had small party in the offices etc.

My currently employer - our ward had one (we paid) and our department are having one (again we pay).
  • 3 clients ago - full xmas parties each year (long term contractors included). I worked in several departments and there was 1 big party for the whole region. If there were call centre staff there then it was free meal and 4 free drinks but senior management had unlimited drinks (exc champagne and fine spirits for all). Without call centre was unlimited drinks for all (exc champagne and fine spirits).

On top of that there was a department meal (sometimes lunch sometimes evening) which the company paid £30 per head. In all my cases managers made up any shortfall from their own pocket.

    No bonuses for anyone

2 Clients ago - One big party (no contractors invited) for the region. Small meal an unlimited free drink.
Departmental parties, no company funding, paid for by managers (contractors invited)
Team party/ meal, paid for by managers (down to manager to decide if contractors invited or not)
Perm staff get a box of wine worth £500 and have a choice of 12, 24 or 36 bottles, red, white or mixed. This was declared to HMRC and so you had a BIK tax payment to make on it.

Current Client - no large Xmas party.
Department party with food being self paid and managers picking up the drinks bill.
Team meal with me picking up the bill

On top of the above my own company will normally fund a meal as our annual allowable party

We have party's. (Day staff/Night staff have different ones) day staff are very cliquey so don't really bother ( I used to work days) I was arranging a night staff Christmas night out until I was advised by a non medical staff member that they have arranged it whilst I was off on holiday and it was for when I was in on shift (lovely!) so from now on I don't bother, I do secret Santa because everyone's names gets put on the board for it but from now on, I won't send Christmas cards.. Just to be awkward!

Run almost the same way in our place, Day get a work's do that's sub'd by the company, nights get sod all, im on day's now but wont go to the works do out of principle.
  • Last employer, I had a bonus and large party with hotel as we all worked in different parts of the country. This, then dwindled in the last couple of years of being there to going to Sheffield for a meeting in the morning and a buffet in the afternoon (obviously the 'christmas do' was a tax deductable event due to the meeting beforehand). Didnt bother going as it would have been a 6.00am start and a 8.00pm arrival at home.

With new employer now and company has just been sold and new owners organised mini bus and sit down meal and wine, thank you very nice :D.

DH company has gone from everything being free weekends away including partners, to posh meal and booze being free with partners and this year, to departmental meal but no booze.

Previous companies I worked for -

1 gave double bonus in Dec and paid for Xmas do.

1 gave a turkey to each employee or £6.24 if you were in a post code that you could not collect your turkey - seriously I could barely get KFC for that!

Current employer does Xmas dinner and a few drinks included.

Where i'm working now we get no Christmas party or meal. Do get double time for xmas day if last year is to go by, as someone must have spoke up as upto then all bank holidays were 50p extra an hour. 2 years ago worked in a major chocolate retailers factory and they paid for xmas dinner for everyone and for the permanent people gave them a tenners worth of chocolate. Years ago when working at Kwik save they did us an xmas party as we won the regional bonus i think it was. It was scaled down the year after as i made a complete tit of myself and showed us all up but i do recall there was one the year after.

I do think unfortunately Christmas seems to be scaled down year after year, don't always think its a good thing as its the major celebration we do as a country really

  • Was speaking to a friend on Friday who was at their Christmas lunch, fab food, glass continually topped up etc just a shame she works in a prison!

For us, we have an office lunch, nice restaurant. We will also be going out for a meal after Christmas with all of the guys, too much going on at moment and it will be something to look forward to. Don't get bonus as such, but do get gifts that are appreciated, I like photography, so couple of years ago I was given a digital photo frame, last year I was given a master baking class, hmm, wonder what I will get this year? :D

We must be really lucky at my work.

Each office get's it's own party paid for by the co including drink. The floors are all decorated.

We get a buffett on the last full working day (this Friday) that is paid for by senior management. We have a half day Christmas Eve

The canteen does a big Christmas lunch for £2. We all get a present this year was a pair of branded socks, mini bottle of champagne & fancy chocs

Won't ever knock my place again
