I think something small like a even a few drinks on the last day or something would do wonders to boost morale, we're finishing up for the holidays and the talk amongst the workers is looking for other jobs over the holidays, no one wants to go back after the holidays. A small gesture even a £20 note in your pay packet would work wonders, problem these days is employers have forgotten that your workforce is the most important asset.

We had Xmas party one year, entirely paid for by manager - but it ended in disaster so not had one since! Some of the staff are arranging something between themselves this year, but its an unofficial thing.

We also used to get a £10 bonus, but for last 2 years have just each got a very small packet of biscuits.

A bonus would do nothing to change your colleagues views and if you were given a £20 bonus no doubt you would moan and say why not £50....

Christmas festivities from what I can gather are scaled back due to lack of money and lack of appreciation for what was/is given

  • We had a big work Xmas party last week, and stayed over in a nice hotel. My dept also went out for dinner mid week last week following a day-long meeting. I stayed in a hotel again overnight as my office is over 20 miles from where I live and it was cheaper than a taxi.

I'm lucky in my industry that Xmas parties have always happened.

Who knows in the future though.

  • We don't get Christmas bonuses.

We do get a team Christmas meal paid for by the firm and also a wider "big" area do paid for by the company.

I don't generally go to the big do but will always attend my team meal where I can.

  • We get pretty much nowt....I think its £8 towards a meal and we pay for everything else ourselfs...maybe a cheap bottle of wine too...

Pretty cr4p and was going to moan but maybe were better off than some.

Morales already rock bottom and the staff just keep turning over lol. When will employers realise that if they show some good will most people will go the extra mile for them...

I work part time for an independent student night club, usually about 15 hours a week and there are around 30 of us. Our Christmas meal was 3 courses with a bottle of prosecco and shots each follow by VIP entry to a nightclub, all paid for by the owner :D And we get the same for our end-of-academic-year party in June!

Oh God no - how many times do I have to tell him that he's spotted in minutes??? And if people here can do it... so can his employers? Hang on, where was that beating head against brick wall icon... damn can't see it anywhere... who was that nice lady who told me there was one, and where can I find it????

Ok. In the spirit of Christmas... We always close on 24th for an extra days holiday. We pay a bonus based on profit sharing. And despite the fact that I sort of retired the party is still round at my house! The food and drink is free to all staff - cleaner upwards - and partners or a guest. There is a bring a bottle rule since they really can tuck it away and I have to hide the good stuff! And we have an absolute rule that when any of the partners say you have had enough you get in the taxi we pay for and go home quietly - it saves on the prospect of post Christmas disciplinaries and that "Oh my God what did I do..." feeling the next morning!

Nothing in the hotel industry, we normally have a Jan party, but that is paid for from tips, and departmental night outs are not subsidised
