We just had a very raucous xmas party all expenses paid by my boss last week, it was a very very good party with quite a few of our best customers invited.

My bosses parties are legendary and it's a great way to keep the best customers.

He's taking the staff for a sit down meal this week as well.

I don't know whats worse, not having an Xmas do or having one but having to pay your own way like we did in my last job, boss wouldn't even buy you a drink.
  • I remember working in Debenhams for years (as a Saturday boy and then part time during Uni) and we always had a 'paid for' Xmas Do and an Xmas bonus. Then I joined the Civil Service after University and was really shocked not to get a 'paid for' Xmas Do or bonus - but of course I appreciate the public sector should not be paying for such things but it was still a surprise at the time!!

I work public sectors so we organise and pay for our own Xmas lunch and have to take 1/2 day annual leave to attend.

Years ago the bosses came too but now they go on their own Xmas lunch together and turn down our invite.

Oh well we have fun x

My employer didn't pay for any festivities for us. In previous years they have apparently paid for a summer BBQ but not this year, we didn't get anything. As for a Christmas bonus or day off for shopping, pah. Nothing.

Not that I feel like I'm missing out - my last job was as a civil servant, so definitely no 'company party' there.

Last place I worked in over christmas didn't pay for the full night but did have an employee contribution, but I remember when HMV stopped giving us gift cards over christmas a few years back. Shame really as I think it helped boost morale, but it doesn't do the one thing which business gives a toss about these days - boosting the profits!

Ive had christmas bonuses before but not anymore, current employer used to give us 1 but stopped it years ago in place of upping the staff discount for a period over christmas. They did have a do but never went as not my scene.

Previous employer had the meal at a local racecourse but wasnt free. Again I never went as the owner was a you know what plus I might have ended up saying something i might have regretted.
  • After working for Debenhams and the Civil Service, I now run a Bed and Breakfast. We organise an Xmas Do with other B&B's in the area and have a 'works Xmas Do' with other B&B's - it makes up for being self employed and not having an Xmas Do!!
