Did you run chkdsk? Post a DDS log.

Download DDS from the link below and save it to your desktop:

    Link

After you've downloaded it and saved it to your desktop:
    • Double click DDS to run it.
    • When it's finished, DDS will open two logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt
Save both reports to your desktop.

Copy & paste the contents of just DDS.txt for now and post it here (you may need to split the log over separate posts)

i have done the dds thing - but to be perfectly honest - i feel more than a bit uncomfortable posting any sort of geeky info about me / my computer (info that i don't understand - but hundreds will) onto an open forum that is read by hundreds of strangers - and tbh - complete strangers that i wouldn't ordinarily trust - ifswim - so not sure what to do now :embarasse

There's no personally identifiable information, it's just information about things that are running/installed & other settings. It's up to you at the end of the day though - it might help, it might not.

in fairness - i've run avira for many months and it has never found a problem - just lots of hidden items (what ever that is)

on it's first scan - adaware found 5 traces and dealt with them automatically - i don't know what traces where but the software deleted them instead of putting in quarantine - so i am guessing not a virus - nothing has shown up in scans since then

it means your video card driver crashed.

check for updated drivers or reinstall windows.
