Was that because you were not part of a timebar or did you successfully get a time bar overruled?

Since both you and your friend are bankrupts you are both excluded from receiving PPI redress personally as it is regarded as a pre-bankruptcy asset. Expect to be asked for any money you fraudulently received. This money should have gone to the Official Receiver for redistribution to your former creditors.
  • I've had exactly the same problem with Santander, re: reclaiming PPI from an Alliance & Leicester loan from Oct 2005, paid off in Oct 2010.

They claim they sent me two letters, to which I did not respond. This is utter bull! I have lived here for 18 years and I have never received a single piece of correspondence from Santander (or indeed A&L) about reclaiming PPI.

I think if Santander had written to me, to tell me that they had mis-sold £6,000 of PPI to me (as I was self-employed and it would not have covered me in the first place) and asking if I would like a refund - did they not think that I would have replied in a shot?! Who in their right mind would ignore a letter like that?

    They're lying.

Yes, they provided a blank template of the supposed letters they sent to me, too - no name on, no date, just blank templates. This is NOT proof!

Interestingly, their covering letter states that they sent the initial 'would you like a refund' letter to me on 'March 30th 2013' and that 'three years has passed' since they sent it. Err, three months more like! Presumably this is a typo, but they say it was March 30th 2013 THREE times in their letter. It seems they can't get their facts straight!

My claims company is going to pursue this, but I can't believe that Santander can get away with just make things up as they go along. VERY annoyed.

I'd get rid of your claims company if I were you. They'll charge you for something you can do yourself.

Although....you'll probably still have to pay to cancel your contract anyway, so it's a toss which is the bigger amount :)

  • I decided to use a claims company as I didn't have any paperwork at all for one of my claims, not even an account number, and they've been great in tracking down that info. Yeah, I know I have to pay them a percentage of anything I get (if I get anything!) but they're tenacious... ;)

They have done nothing you could not do yourself at a fraction of the cost.
