Don't really see how that concerns you, either you believe me or you don't and I see no reason to give you any information regarding my private life.

I know some older diesels such as my old '97 plate Astra would return 12% less MPG when run on supermarket diesels, but My 200-plate Octavia returned the same mpg regardless. It all depends on how sensitive the sensors and ECU are to the subtle changes in the fuel mix.

"They" are obviously not very intelligent people, or maybe mechanics without any knowledge or the correct diagnostic tools to find what faults are.
The vast majority of people in the UK, running a variety of new and old cars are using supermarket fuels.
I have used supermarket fuels in the following makes - Alfa Romeo, BMW, Audi, VW, Ford, Mazda, Skoda, MG, Triumph. Some of these cars were built in the early sixties, and I never had a fuelling problem with any vehicle.
I do however make sure that my cars are maintained properly, and that the fuel filter is changed on a yearly basis.

I have used supermarket fuel in all my cars. S2000, Type R, Westfield etc

It has never made one jot of difference.

Makes me think the people that are having fuel problems are the ones that have there car serviced at a garage, did the fuel filter get changed in the service, it may say so on the invoice if not it may have been there for years, i change the diesel fuel filter each year on our cars, i run four diesel cars and a 7.5 ton lorry on supermarket diesel and have never had any trouble at all,
Dont fill up if the tanker is dropping its load as it will stir up the contents of main tank.

Must agree with the people who have been told supermarket fuel is inferior - I have been told that by two different garages (during services) not to run my car purely on supermarket fuel, and luckily where we are Tesco only match the lowest price or else the other fuel forecourts match Tesco's price not sure which does which so I'm not saving any money by using supermarket fuel anyway. My car is serviced twice a year due to the large number of miles I drive.

I have always been an advocate of supermarket fuel having done 100s of thousands of miles on it.

In this current cold spell many of the company Kias are stalling due to fuel filter blockages (before the first service sometimes). KIa say the water in the diesels is freezing and blocking the filters and that not to use supermarket diesel.

personally i think they are talking rubbish but there is definitely a problem

I work for a company that supplies & maintains cars and we have seen an increase this year, for some reason, in fuel waxing causing fuel filter blockages. We're monitoring the situation but it isn't confined to one manufacturer or region. Hopefully once there is evidence of a wider problem, the manufacturers won't be so quick to dismiss the problem. Spoke to one dealer today who was inundated with Hyundai & Mitsubishi diesels with this problem. The car makers have yet to reply in detail.....but I'd say it is becoming a widespread problem and apparently not related to supermarket fuel.

a sensible post for a change on the motoring forum.

there has to be a reason why it has increased this winter and does suggest that the fuel is the problem if it is across many manufacturers...doesnt it?
