Please say you have this in writing, if so Paul has just landed Peugeot in the brown stuff as he has just said that these engines cannot be relied on to run with normal diesel fuel, or in other words they are not fit for purpose.
Here's the source-

Surely then VOSA should be intervening and banning these manufacturers vehicles from sale as they are obviously not fit for purpose (either that or the standards for fuel need to be tightened).
Or making them state clearly on there adverts and sales literature that they may not operate correctly with the fuel they are supposed to be designed for (would be interesting to see the affect on their sales in this country).
Would it be wishful thinking for a government body to do what it should be doing ?0 -
Just to add my saga !
62 Reg Citroen Diesel Car done less than 2300 miles.
On way home various error messages came on dash, loud beep and car went into economy mode.
Contacted local dealer. Found fault to be blocked fuel filter due to waxing of diesel fuel. Blamed supermarket diesel, saying inferior in quality to branded makes. Car would not be fixed under warranty, as was a 'poor fuel quality issue'. Repair cost = nearly £150 !
Am writing to Citroen Head Office and Sainsburys now.
No doubt will get fobbed off by both, but at least I have tried !0 -
was talking to someone yesterday who works on trucks so different vehicles I know, but he has heard of many issues with different cars this winter using all different fuels.
he puts it down to the "bio" part of the fuel and cars trying to comply with the emmission laws and that it is becoming increasingly difficult to comply leading to problems that we are seeing.
That may or may not be correct but it made some kind of sense to me.
Some garage add more "bio" additives than others apparently.
Will wait to get shot down now0 -

It is shocking that manufacturers are blaming the motorist for using fuel that complys with their own guidelines.
Think it is time Watchdog or Trading standards got involved nationwide0 -

In the letters I am sending, I have specified that, depending on their responses, I will be contacting both !
I advise other sufferers to do this the same.0 -

Undoubtedly, there will be something in your car's handbook that stipulates what grade of fuel is required by your car. Also, somewhere on the garage fuel pump, there will be that same fuel specification.
A photo of the two should be enough to convince your local dealer of the error of their way - unless they are VERY stupid."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

I remember thinking at the time "That shows those people who say all petrol is the same are incorrect!"poppasmurf_bewdley wrote: »I've never quoted myself before, but watching the BBC News just now has prompted me to where I heard the above. It was on a news report about the Phillpot trial where they reported that a forensic scientist stated they analysed some petrol as Tesco brand because it had no additives.
Reports said the evidence given was that branded fuels have higher concentrations of additives than supermarkets.
The brands use slightly differing additive packages, and because the additives remain after an ordinary fire [as opposed to in an engine] this enables them to be identified.
There were traces of Total BP and Shell on various items of clothing.
So supermarkets have a lower concentration of additives than brands, but that isn't necessarily a statement that supermarkets have none at all.
The witness did not identify Tesco fuel, or say Tesco has no additives.
By the way, if Tesco did in fact have no additives, it could not be detected by these tests as there would be no unburnt residue.
So I don't think that evidence is as you stated and does not support any deduction of no additives by Tesco.0
