And, whilst we can't say whether innovate is correct above on the 'guideline' theory

My theory stems from the fact that there is nothing in the Notice of Variation or anywhere on the Halifax website that talks about the 14th of April. Therefore there is no mandatory condition to have anything done by the 14th of April. The absolute deadline for everything to work is May 1 2013.

It's probably just a bit of helpful advice from a Halifax person to say DDs can take a fortnight to set up, and therefore people should get their act together by the 14th of April.

But as several of us have experienced, these Tesco-type DDs that you can do yourself only take a couple of days to show in Halifax.

NB. Please nobody call up Halifax and ask whether it's true that Tesco-type DDs only take a couple of days to show up!

Lady K, if it's any help, the national lottery dd was showing quickly after I set it up.

I thought I'd just set up anything I could for quickness then sort the dd's out properly once I was 'safe' iyswim.

Well the 14th is on the letter they sent everyone right at the bottom, the one headed 'WE'RE MAKING SOME CHANGES' its at the bottom of the first page and says - To remain in the reward current account you will need to have at least two different direct debits set up by April 14th 2013.

I called them back again and they confirmed as long as its set up and viz in the direct debits tab in your account its ok even if the next payment comes out in May.

Ive now set up 2 ing linked accounts, 2 tesco linked accounts, 2 principality links and 1 post office but all are waiting for this and that so might not come through. I have also swapped gas and elec dd's but didnt bother swapping the tv license because they said they wouldnt even contact halifax for a couple of weeks.

If they do end up being lenient with some accounts it would most probably be the ones with 1 reward account rather than 3.
    Thanx

When did you set that up? because I rang the lottery too and they told me 3 weeks. Did you choose play straight away or wait until dd is set up because play straight away uses your debit card for 3 weeks until the dd kicks in so they told me, are you sure its not the debit card thats showing and not the direct debit?

When I set mine up a few years back it did take them about three weeks and the site gave me the option of either waiting for it to be set up or paying the three weeks by debit card.

I did it on Thursday evening. The dd showed today (Mon) when I checked the dd tab on my Halifax account but the money wont be taken until the 15th. I chose dd only, no payment by card.

I've just done another 2 this evening, also no payment by card, money wont be taken until 4th May, will update when it shows at Halifax.

When you say you set another 2 lotteries up today did you use the same account for direct debit or do they allow you to have more than one direct debit account per member?

Or did you have to create 2 more lottery accounts to do that?
    Thanx

Again, I think the "14 April" bit is just a bit of good advice because it can take a couple of weeks for any standard DDs to show.

You can bet the 14 days, and even if it takes 14 days, you are still well in time for May 1st, when the T&Cs change. Never mind what it says in any letter, the T&Cs are the only thing that counts.

I am out of this debate now, beginning to feel like I have led the horses to water.
