We live in France and all our direct debits are in euros to French companies so we cannot set up any of those with Halifax. We have offered to set up standing orders but they will not qualify. We have been with Halifax for almost 50 years and would have hoped they would be more reasonable - but no. Mind you I am not surprised as just over 5 years ago we paid in a cheque to the Bromsgrove office for 17,000 and asked them to fast track it. They simply put a 20p stamp on it and sent it off to the wrong address!!! It was lost for about 10 days and they refused to even speak to us during this period. It was not until we rang their press office to complain that they did anything. Just one hour later they rang to say the cheque had been found!!! What a bunch of money grabbing bankers.:mad:
Set up a couple of 50p charity DDs, that way you'll still get 4 quid..0 -
I have 2 Direct Debits set up on mines, but one is to my Halifax credit card, and the other is to my Bank of Scotland credit card, will this be okay and treated as 2 separate Direct Debits even though Halifax and Bank of Scotland are the same company ?.0

That is such a terrible suggestion! It costs a charity something between 50p and £1 every time they receive a DD transaction. It's one thing to help banks in better distribution of their profits, but an entirely different one to deprive a charity!0 -

Couldn't agree more. Saving money at the expense of a charity is despicable.
I do hope these little schemes come unstuck when charities choose not to operate the DDs and the free fivers vanish! :rotfl:0 -
Just a little FYI for people.
If your current accounts all have 1000 overdrafts (well 750 after may) then you don't actually have to have any money in the accounts. This is because you don't get charged interest if you go overdrawn as long as you aren't overdrawn at midnight.
It seems that setting up low value DDs from savings accounts is the way to go.
Anyone know if I can use the same DD sources on multiple accounts? Ie a DD from my savings to current accounts #1,#2 and #3?0 -
Ooh yes, that would be hilarious! :rotfl:
Sorry but I can honestly say its not as hilarious as this whole thread and how worried posters have become with losing or gaining a fiver every month.
I agree this is a moneysaving site but I'm sure most of you waste more then a fiver a week/month on chocolate or alcohol or sweets or fags etc then worries about a silly fiver.0 -

It doesn't cost 50p to service a DD, plus charities get the tax back - so, a net influx of new funding is better than nothing..and anyway how much do you think should be a reasonable regular donation...£5-£10-£50-£100?0 -

Indeed.
Maybe when you could have multiple Reward accounts and Halifax hadn't cottoned onto the gaming of their system quite well enough, it would have been worth worrying about. Now, a fiver is a pittance. I'd happily lose a fiver not to have to bank with Halifax.urs sinserly,

You have taken my post completely out of context.
I still believe it would be hilarious if those who are greedy enough to deprive a charity wouldn't get their fivers.0
