Anyone got a Steam Mop?

Hi All

Thought this might the right board to post on but i'll post on Old Style too so sorry for the cross post!

Im considering buying my mum a steam mop for Christmas - shes been on about the Thane X5 ones, which seem to have good reviews online, but when ive read independant reviews on different forums, people seem to say that they are flimsy and break easily :(

So....does anyone have one? Do you recommend them?

TIA!

I bought my mum a steam mop and she loves it, though can't remember what make it is.

They're rubbish. All they do is emit steam, they don't suck anything up so you're just moving the dirt around.

I have a really expensive Polti steam cleaner in the original box under my stairs for about 10 years. Used less than half a dozen time. Every time I get it out and set it up to give it another try, I remember why it is that it's never used.

    Don't waste your money.

  • I won an Oreck steam mop, it's great :D The amount of dirt it pulls from a floor that looks immaculate is amazing! The only downside is that you are not supposed to use it on laminate as it slightly fades the colour on the wood.
  • I bought my brother one for his house, the Genie range from asda £25 i think and he says it's brilliant, they have laminate flooring and loves it
  • I recently borrowed my Grandmas to clean my kitchen floor tiles and I didn't want to give it back! Gets so much dirt up from even a clean looking floor. I think she got hers from Lakeland but I'm not certain.

OOoo, a lady after my own heart! I have been meaning to buy one for a while now but could do with some suggestions from others as to which are best. I know you can buy them for anywhere between £25 and £225 but are the more expensive ones really better?

I want one too but also want a recommendation as they prices vary so much and lots of reviews on Amazon say 'flimsy, fell apart, steam melted parts' so I want to buy wisely.

Does anyone have a Which? subscription and would they have a look for us?

I agree, I got a Vax S2 because of the good reveiws, but I'm not that impressed by it - I've got tiled floors on the ground floor. I'm wondering if mine doesn't work properly because it doesn't seem to clean anything. I just find that the pad get wet and all the dirt stays where it is.
