Put up a sign that says "Please return any parcels to the depot, not with neighbours" and hope they read it. We had them knock the other day asking us to take in a parcel for next door - people we don't speak to, we've not had a fight, they're just not our kind of people, and we said no thank you and he took ages to leave, dallying around on my doorstep hoping I would relent and take it, he was quite annoyed that I wouldn't.

I've got a neighbour who cheerfully nicks whatever she can from any parcel she takes in for others.

When challenged she says the parcel must've been short packed at wherever it came from.

We then have to contact the company and go through the rigmarole with them.

This has happened dozens of times in the last year.

Only solution was to leave instructions for delivery saying If out leave with neighbour but NOT number xx

I took a parcel in for the man across the road some years ago, didn't really know him but they were a couple in their 50's.

I'd had to run some errands etc and they didn't come in from work till 6pm but consequently I couldn't get the parcel to him until about 7pm. He had the audacity to complain to me that it took me long enough to bring it over. I told him that won't be an issue again as next time he's collecting it himself from the sorting office. I've refused a dozen parcels for him over the last ten years and with each my sense of satisfaction grows bigger :)

I've had a similar sort of thing happen. Thankfully once my neighbours were informed we would get onto the company, then the police if necessary, it was put through our door within a hour or so.

Had it with a company once, who I sent back a computer to be repaired to. They denied receiving it. Thankfully we had recorded, signed for delivery. We got onto the Royal Mail, who said they would investigate and surprise, surprise, it was delivered back within a couple of days.

Glad you got it back eventually OP.
  • We have started to refuse to take in parcels for others.
It was ok for immediate neighbours, but it has got to the stage where we are the only people home in the whole street.
We have ended up with as many as 5 parcels in one day!
    Am I being petty?
I suppose I could start charging the carriers who after all are getting paid to deliver to the address chosen and would incur extra expense to redeliver.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left!

On Parcelforce website it says "We deliver to an address, not a named individual. When no one is available to accept the item, we will try and deliver the parcel to a neighbour, or to a local Post Office branch, where it will be held for 16 days."

Royal Mail have started doing this too.
Using one of their opt out stickers might also work for Parcelforce.

Was the parcel opened? If it was still closed I think she deserves the benefit of the doubt before being accused of acting dishonestly!

One side of the box had the brown tape all pulled off, and then re-stuck down, and the box flap had been pulled up and bent, by the looks of it in an attempt to see what was inside.

    Cheeky b*gg*rs!

I think the answer is this.

Whenever a neighbour takes in a parcel the delivery company should give them 10 points.

Once a neighbour has collected 100 points they can convert it into an amazon voucher or similar.

This way the delivery company saves on having to deliver more than once and the neighbour gets something for being helpful.

At the moment, our next day neighbour takes in loads for us so we give her a small prezzie - box of chocolates etc - every now and then

When my neighbour nicks from the parcels they have all been opened and sellotaped back down.

"The baby opened it," she says every time.
