Having just checked the owner's manual again for mine (Yaris Hybrid), it says that the DRLs dim when the headlight switch is operated. For some reason I thought they were completely off when the proper lights were on (simply because to me that would just make sense - I guess car manufacturers think differently :rotfl: )Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Can't see the point of having side lights fitted, was different years ago when people left them on when they parked because there were no street lights but no one leaves their side lights on when they're parked these days.
Also the automatic headlights that are fitted to many cars are only as good as the sensors and I've known mine to come on during sunshine but not when it's foggy.
They can't be relied upon 100%.
I reckon a lot of the time when you see cars with no lights on it's because the drivers think they have automatic lights so they don't give it a 2nd thought.0 -

There's no indicator on my dash to tell me that the main lights are on. Although I agree, it's pretty obvious that they are on at night. If they can't tell the difference when it's dark out between the amount of light given by DRLs and headlights then they have a serious problem :rotfl: plus there's no indicator lit up on the dash when you only have the DRLs.
And yes when it is really murky out daytime, I do remember to put proper lights on

I'd prefer to see people look out for vehicles when they are driving rather than pass a law that does the job for you..
Agreed. But unfortunately we will always have bad drivers who simply are incompetent when it comes to such matters. In my opinion, if you cannot judge when to use your lights when the conditions clearly are such that your headlights should be on, then you should either surrender your driving licence or go and take a suitable driving course which will teach you the basics about driving in heavy rain, snow or fog.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0
