Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 14th December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning All!
Been awake since 4. I could hear banging, and went to look. Found that the bay trees by my front door had blown over and were banging on the front door! Brought them in to the hall now.
Made a cuppa and caught up with Gino & Mel. Apparently Beef dripping is the thing for roast potatoes. I'm sticking to my goose fat:rotfl:
Had a lovely lunch yesterday. DD and dgd came over. OH had bought DGD a toy mobile phone in Poundland. She loved it! Mum wasn't so sure though, the noises it made!:rotfl:
Getting out my dinner service today and washing it. I only use this one for dinner parties and Christmas, it sits in the sideboard otherwise, so it needs a wash!
Found my Xmas pressie in the garage and had to tell OH that I don't want it! He's bought me a vibrating plate exercise machine! For a start it's HUGE, I have no where to put it, but I won't use it anyway, so told him to send it back. I feel bad, but what's the point? God knows why he thought I'd like it!
Hope everyone has a good day, weatherman says rain today, so stay in and keep warm:j

Morning all.
Hillstep I was awake at 4 too. Dog got me up first then hubbys alarm went off just as I got back into bed. Against my better judgement he decided to do a 300 mile round trip to work and back as well as a full day at work. I guess he will be living on caffeine drinks all day.
Son will be up soon and in the shower.
No frost this morning. It's just above freezing outside and a lot warmer inside I can tell you. My house retains the heat well I am pleased to say.
Managed to complete the Christmas shopping yesterday. It's been scaled down a lot this year but expensive nonetheless. I still walked my legs off though.
Usual Friday chores for me today, usual routine but I shall be staying in bed till son has gone to college.
Have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

morning everyone, no frost here today either thankfully but still feels cold out, I was awake at 4.45 but have laid in bed with a cup of tea. I am feeling rather slack when I read how you are all nearly organised for Christmas. I have been putting off a lot of things but plan to get organised on Saturday. Its only the two of us this year so will be a scaled down affair but given the expense we are glad about that! if anything now Oh has managed to get some time off we will have a quiet and relaxing time.
Got to post a couple of parcels off and mince pies to make but have been asked to make the cakes for our works buffet sometime next week. The company dont pay for a meal or anything so we all bring stuff in and take a couple of hours to chill out and eat together, being the only female I tend to get asked for 'one or two of my cakes' whilst the men tend to turn up with jumbo bags of crisps or such like from the supermarket! The requests so far are , ooh your carrot cake, anything but no chocolate, to a plain Victoria sponge. personally I am thinking crystalised ginger and dark chocolate cookies with a little christmas spice, and some cranberry and white chocolate cookies, easy and quick to make and bake. There are only about 15 people all told in the offices so I dont fancy making two or three different 10 portion cakes if I am honest, plus the cost of anything that I don't have in my store cupboard.
Am glad its friday and I am on count down now to Christmas eve, even though its a working day my boss has told me come in to show my face for about 2 or 3 hours just to finalise any end of year stuff and go home, which is good because I didnt book it as holiday! Then that will be me until the New year, not so sure I am excited about Christmas as much as the week off....have a good day everyoneDont wait for your boat to come in 'Swim out and meet the bloody thing'0 -
Good Morning :wave::wave::wave:,
I havent posted for a few days as I have been, like many others, sooo busy.Did you miss me?
I have been trying to organise the house before the Children break up next week. Its a bit of a pointless task unless I declutter a bit, so might take a nose at the tidying up threads for motivation. I have also been busy with a psychology assignment on `The Self` I love the chit chat in my psychology lesson but writing it up is a real challenge.
Today I have college and school run is before that, Guess I better get a start on the days jobs. Its definitely warmer here as well.
Have a safe and happy day everyone and hugs to those in need of one.x“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Your really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” Lucille Ball.0 -

Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Getting light here now this morning, looks like no frost but damp underfoot and windy.
DH up and off to work stupid early.
Dinner last night was delicious lamb casserole, dumplings (as there wasn't really enough meat!), mash, carrots, brussels, broccolli, and LO cauli/brocc cheese, dessert from the tins for the menfolk.
Went to the dentist, whilst the treatment didn't feel as rough this time, and my mouth is not so sore this morning I do have a bit of a jaw ache, but think that's been caused by being pulled about - it's not so bad this morning as last night, so hoping it will wear off over the next day or two.
Was reasonably productive yesterday as I didn't feel too bad when I got home from the dentist so did crack on get housework done, did a couple of extra jobs ready for next week too, also had the WM and TD going - so whilst not cheap on the leccy needs must! Not all up to date though, so will continue with that this morning. Will be heading to the bank shortly then a very quick shop of only a few bits then home as I want to get going with the ironing, although I did iron everything that was dry enough yesterday - want to get completely up to date and need to change the beds today also. Have a nail appointment at midday so want to get as many heavy jobs done before that so I can have an easier afternoon - on-line shop being delivered between 4-6pm. Had a major argument with big SM yesterday, went to pay on my cc for my dental treatment and my card was declined - I've been lucky enough to have some recent financial good fortune and had paid majority of the cc debt off, therefore being nowhere near the credit limit, so was highly embarassed as I'm having a course of dental treatment and was there last week and paid on the same cc with no problem. So came home rang cc customer services, waited an eternity to recorded messages etc, they advised as I'm not the primary card holder they wouldn't talk to me, we had completed an authority letter so I can deal with anything that comes up due to DH working away or long hours, had sent this back and they then tell me they haven't received it! I then asked if they write out to customers and get no reply why is it not diarised and the customer contacted again a month later to find out why they haven't replied? The reply to was as follows, "that's a really good idea - it makes sense and that's certainly something we should be putting in place!" I'm no scholar but surely if someone rings and says they want third party authority on a cc account and company sends a letter to sign and return, and its not received back by the company, they should be investigating why? I was dealing with the Security and Fraud department that's scary!!? Upshot of it all is that there appears to be a lot of fraud going on in this area at the moment and that's why my card was stopped - asked why when they look back at all the records everything I've used my card for is the same as in the past - there's nothing different, also possibly the worst thing is that they hadn't attempted to get in contact with us - so I'm afraid they got the wrong end of my temper last night and are sending me a £30 gift card to compensate - but to be honest I'm so not impressed I may well decide to cancel the card. Sorry that turned into a bit of a rant.
Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

Morning All
I see. From FB that it would have been Diva's birthday today, so posting in purple today in her memory.
As you may have seen from FB the tree is up, so Christmas has arrived at Casa DG. Tea last night was Liver in gravy for me Sausages for DH, with mash, Broccoli, Carrots, Sprouts (for me) and Parsnips. Enough left for today too. Even treat Skye to a mini liver dinner with plenty of the gravy, luckily there is not pattern on the bottom on her dish, else it would have gone too:rotfl::rotfl:
Today I must face Donny again, however, it is still murky here ATM, the wind has not arrived here yet. Looks like I could get drenched !! If the forecast is anywhere near correct.
LW, Molly don't you are disappear into lurkdom, (((hugs))), Spoons, Hi5's all round. Take care all. DG
