staff cover christmas period

Now you have an issue that all the hours will be worked on Xmas day.
I get the feeling that whatever your manager would have done, wouldn't have been satisfactory to you. Unless it was the whole day off.
Like I said, sometimes it's better to keep your head down and get on with it. Especially for something as trivial as this.
I used to be in the Army, I was away more Christmases than I was home. Have a thought for all our Forces serving abroad over the festive period.
At least there's no chance of you having your legs blown off.
the problem i have is he put me in xmas day when i put down i did not want to work it, there was enough other staff who wanted to do xmas day to cover it, i swapped with another member of staff who was in all day boxing day as she offered to swap me, the supervisor said that was ok, but now i have asked for less hours, he has said he did not agree with the swap so put me back on xmas day, has took a 12 hour shift off me on another day, so now i am 3 hours down on my contracted hours.
dont get me worng, i said i would do any shifts boxing day, new y eve and new year day. the reason i did not want to do xmas day is i am going to be up from 5am with kids, not going to be able to get any sleep for the rest of the day and expects me to be capable of doing a 12 hour night shift, yes it will spoil my plans but most of all what if im so tried and end up falling alseep on my night shift and somthing happens to one of the clients??
surley it would be better for the serivce???0 -
It's not really the managers problem that you'll be up at 5am with the kids. It is your responsibility to ensure you're suitably rested to undertake a night shift. If you fall asleep and something happens to one of the clients you'll be held accountable.
The long and short of it is that you've been rota'd to work Xmas day. Whether there were 100 people lining up wanting to swap or you mentioned you'd prefer not to work it is irrelevant.
Did you work Xmas day last year?0 -

Sorry - I have been biting my tongue for several reasons but I think that you need to stop being so self-centred. You have complained about everything and everybody. You've complained about the new member of staff who got holiday (perhaps they asked for it when they accepted the job - long standing commitments and all that). You've complained about the person doing Christmas eve sleepover who "only" has to work an hour - no, they are working a full shift and perhaps they could think of better things to do with christmas eve but didn't get a choice on the matter because this is their job. You've complained about the number of hours you had to work. Then the days you had to work. Then you had a collegaue complaining too.
And now you are complaining that you have got what you asked for - less hours over the holiday period. So you throw in complaining that you "have to stay up until 5am" with the kids - no, you actually do not have to.
My best guess is that your manager has had it "up to here" with the backbiting and gossiping about who has got what, and what isn't fair to who. You got the reduction in hours you asked for, now you want them when you want to work them. Sorry, life isn't like that. You've wound up others about what is and isn't fair - now the manager is making it clear who sets the rules. Sorry, I think you brought this on yourself.0 -

i just think its a bit cr*p how im in xmas night shift and new years day night shift, dont mind at all the new years shift but i wasnt even allowed to change my shift for xmas day especially when all the other staff who dont have kids said they wud swap me. and i said i could do any of the shift boxing day. but i suppose ill just have to get over it!kirstycobie wrote: »the problem i have is he put me in xmas day when i put down i did not want to work it, there was enough other staff who wanted to do xmas day to cover it, i swapped with another member of staff who was in all day boxing day as she offered to swap me, the supervisor said that was ok, but now i have asked for less hours, he has said he did not agree with the swap so put me back on xmas day, has took a 12 hour shift off me on another day, so now i am 3 hours down on my contracted hours.

dont see why he had to change me back to xmas day tho, esp when one of the other member of staff offered to cover it in the first place.
Because you kept moaning I suspect.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

obviously you lot dont know him, he screams at the staff all the time saying if he were a woman hed rag our heads off and the rest and i could be on here all day with the stories but obviosuly ive lived a sheltered life and that must be how bosses are, i must be being unreasonable.
thanks for the replies0 -
Obviously we only have your side of the story.
If he's that bad make a complaint against him.0 -
2 of the girls have and nothing has been done about him, apart from getting a good shouting at because of how much they showed him up in front of teh area manager.0

Then take it above the Area Manager if nothing is happening.
Or sit and take it. Up to you.0 -

Why only 2? If he is that bad then you all need to do something about it. But this thread is not about that - it's about the christmas cover issue.
There really is a simple solution to this and that's for you all to put a schedule together for the christmas period cover and deliver it as a done deal.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
