Christ!
I pay £25 pcm but then I do live on my own.
p.s. I don't live in one room either -it's 22 degrees thoughout and I like the house warm.
At work all day though.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

I use a maximum of £18 per week in the coldest weeks of winter, last week I used £14.47 and I was home most of the time with the heating running. I have a two bed flat with single glazed windows.
I do take my readings weekly and update them into http://www.imeasure.org.uk
where I have nearly 4 years of data stored.0 -
Hello. We have just received a revised gas ball and our monthly charge has gone up to a whopping £174. Per month!
This is a standard house, two floors, three regular size bedrooms with two adults and two children. What is the average?
That's more than mine is for three months (winter bills), is it because you have not paid enough to date to cover quarterly bills and so on review they have upped your DD's. What is you actually usage for the month.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
Welcome to the forum.
You have almost certainly built up a debit balance and your Utility company have increased your monthly payment to cover what you use over the rest of the winter, and pay off the debt by the time of the Spring review(the normal time for the annual review)
If in doubt, just ring and discuss your account.
The average gas/electricity bill is around £100 to £120 a month averaged over a year - much heavier in winter of course.0 -
I live in a 4 bedroom terrace house on my own and spent £102 for the year's gas and £270 for my year's elecric. I don't mind it cold though. I do use the computer a lot and think that is why the elecric bill is so high.0

Hiya, £174 per month just for gas. I do not think you are telling the whole story... How much is your electric per month?
Have you got dept on the bill?
How many hours per day do you have the heating on?
I also see you are a new poster, so welcome. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
I think we will see a few more of these threads between now and march.
With price rises and end of fixed tariffs we might see quite a few people in debt to their gas bill. The jump might be significant for some.0 -
must admit I thought SSE were wrong when they assessed my gas DD and said £25 pcm would cover it, haven't been in debt on each bill so far though.
House is DG, very well insulated and I'm usually out all day and all weekend, new boiler too.
Knocked through lounge is a pain: if it was still 2 rooms it'd be easier to keep really toasty!
I had a SG draughty 2 bedroom rental before on card/key meters and It'd generally cost me around £2-2.50 per day when I was in all day.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

I live in a 2 up 2 down terrace, no cavity wall, one north facing wall is single skin brick, windows are single glazed. To keep my house at 18 degrees for 6 hours a day costs about £100 a month between November and February. This means that over the year my gas DD averages out to about £50 -£60 pm.0
-
It's not a 'bill', it's notice that your DD is increasing to £174pm. That's a contribution to your bill, not your actual bill, which could be more or less for the reasons already given.
It does not mean that you are using £174 of gas per month. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
