Hi All,
New here, and would really appreciate any advice, here are the facts:
I understand they are in administration, but also thought that I should be entitled to a 12 month guarantee under the sale of goods act?
Would appreciate any advice!
New here, and would really appreciate any advice, here are the facts:
- Purchased a JVC TV from Comet 4 months ago. (still have receipt), paid by debit card unfortunately.
- The TV has now developed a fault.
- Rang JVC who advised that the TV was made exclusively for comet and they provide the 12 month warranty/guarantee.
- Have rang comet a few times now but get a different answer each time, saying either the guarantee is now void or that provision hasn't been made yet by the administrators.
I understand they are in administration, but also thought that I should be entitled to a 12 month guarantee under the sale of goods act?
Would appreciate any advice!

You are but you are just one of a long line of creditors that Comet have and legally you are not at the front of the line. Given you are talking to people who are all about to lose their jobs around Xmas time they probably arent that concerned about giving great customer service any more0

Did you pay by credit card or debit card? If so, talk to your bank.0

If you paid by card, you should be OK. If you paid by cash, you've got a very expensive doorstop.0

I've got exactly the same problem. Told by Comet today that the JVC TV is not in fact a JVC but made by a UK company called Vestel who will now only honour a guarantee for 28 days because of a disput with Comet. Comet say that they will do nothing more on the instructions for this brand by the Administrators. They will not repair or replace the TV
Called consumer advice who said to lodge a claim with the Administrators and to take the matter up with JVC UK.
So much for consumer rights.......0 -

JVC don't have any legal obligation to help, so likely won't. Lodging a claim with the administrators might get you a few pennies in the pound after a couple of years. Did you pay for it on a credit card, debit card or cash ?0 -
Sorry to hear you have faced a similar issue, I wonder if it was a dodgy batch of TV's as the one I purchased was a JVC as well.
I didn't even realise shops could take it upon themselves to take care of the guarantee. I would have thought comet would have underwritten this with a 3rd party as it is surely a big potential liability on the accounts? Sadly this doesn't appear to be the case so looks like we will not have any comeback.
Will try to issue a chargeback, but as I paid with debit card it looks like there is a 120 day limit and it is just passed that.0 -

What consumer rights do you want? The company selling the item have gone bust, and your rights have gone with them. I don't know what else you want.0 -
I rather suspect he wants the assurance that buyers 'normally' get:
i.e. if the seller has gone bust then he can return it to the manufacturer.
Frankly I think JVC are playing silly beggers here -who gives a toss whether it's rebadged by vestel as a JVC -JVC were presumably paid something for the use of their name at the very least.
If a car has 'VW' on it I care not if Skoda or Seat made it, I have a warranty claim with VW not with the others.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

No, you don't have a warranty claim with VW, only if VW gave you a manufacturers guarantee otherwise its through the retailer only.0 -
Thanks for that CHC, probably a bad example anyway.
I thought the 1 year guarantee was statutory on the manufacturer anyway?
i.e. I still think that goods bearing the JVC name which fail within an unreasonable time should be eligible for some sort of repair/replacement by the manufacturer (or via them if they have chosen to use a re-badger) as the retailer has gone bust.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
