  • If you can change a light bulb in your home you can change one in a car.

Not always, mine (Megane) is like doing keyhole surgery for the front lights! It's definitely worth getting the bloke at Halfords to roll round in the mud instead :p

    Hello all.

My 2001 Ford KA has done just under 90,000 miles and has been quoted £600 to repair.

The reasons for refusal of a test certificate

001 Front windscreen wiper does not clear the windscreen effectively (8.2.2) £10

002 Nearside front windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid (8.2.3) £0(poke a pin in the jet)-60+

003 offside front tyre tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm (4.1.e.1) £new tyre

004 Nearside rear position lamp not working (1.1.a.3b)£5 new bulb £

005 offside rear stop lamp not working (1.2.1b)£5 new bulb more if they have to hunt for the problem

006 nearside front brake hose excessively deteriorated (3.6.b.4d)£30

007 offside front brake hose excessivel deteriorated (3.6.b.4d)£30

008 nearside front macpherson strut has excessive movement in the upper support bearing assembly (2.5.b.1b)£80

009 offside front suspension arm has excessive play in pin/bush (2.4.g.2)£60

    Advisory Items

    015 Rear bumper insecure *dangerous*

Does £600 sound right for this? (Im not sure if that £600 includes the bumper!). I do not know much about cars at all. Im intending on calling a few garages tomorrow to get other quotes.

might be a little too much but the prices I quoted are estimates might be waaay off as I dont know the price of the parts.

what you need to do is book your car in for a service before the mot. all of the mot checks are done in a service. a bonus to this is that the emission test will not be so much of a problem as the plugs, oil and filters have been changed

Just buy a new ka that has had a recent MOT and scrap your one. :D
  • would be cheaper to scrap it instead of spending all that money since prob won't be even worth that ways
