Fab idea Solstice_3 thank you. I think I have a cajun spice mix packet lurking in the cupboard somewhere too plus would be yummy with Hex's garlic mayo dip suggestion.
I think I may actually get to a point where I have too much! I will sit down this evening write it all down and work exactly what to prep.
Thank you for all the suggestions :T0 -
evening all, i popped to mr t today, only needed 3 things, milk, cheese and cheese with pickled onion ( - for supper tonight cheese and crackers, decided on this as we have pate and pickles that need using up) I stuck to the list so did well there but the cost was £7.82
i spend a fortune on cheese each week around £10 - £12, my dd has it for her lunch in wraps and hubby for his lunch too, and for hm pizza, topping for cottage pie, cauliflower cheese etc, if I could get this down it would be a great saving each week.0 -

I buy most of our meat in bulk from a catering butchers and when I use it I pay myself back using money from the GC. I put it to one side and when stocks are running down this money is used for restocking. Hope it works for you.
NSD today and have done a mealplan up to Sunday. Will be going shopping on Thursday but so far very little on the list and tbh nothing that couldnt wait if mum decides she doesnt need to go.
Used some eggs up today for lunch that were just out of date have one left and then 6 that are in date after that. Found some cream in the fridge which is out of date but will get DH to taste it first tomorrow :rotfl:and if its ok use it with some christmas pudding.MARCH £62.38/2500 -
I am quite nervous now about approaching the reduced section if there are a lot of people,
having been smacked in the face by a bag of salmon fillets by a hulk of a man who couldnt wait his turn, though not on purpose,
he reached over me to grab them and caught me as he hauled them out and twice almost elbowed off my feet on other occasions.
I approach with caution.
Reduced sections can be brutal when the last price drops are being done can't they? My local Mr T can range from civilised (I'll take a peek in at those times) to downright brutality at which point I don't even wander over for a peekApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
Please count me in. My budget is £160 and I've got 26 days to go with £50 of this already spent. Have a meal plan for a week now at least so that is something!

NSD today
i'm acually up a tiny bit of food as mil sent us home with a few bits.
We used to use loads of cheese a good £10 a week, now i buy slices as sandwichs were the biggest downfall, so i buy edam cheese and cut the huge slices in half we get 12 sandwichs for 95p, i buy value grated cheese and mix with a block of whatever mature cheese is on offer for sheperds pies ect, i still keep a block for on bakes taties/beans on toast /cheese on toast,
Reduced sections seem to be ok around here, i once seem it really bad in the big tesco when they wheeled out a crate of eggs, honestly there were people with 10 boxes of eggs so i didn't even look.DEC GC £463.67/£450

Just found this thread what a great idea! I've been saving loads recently by drawing up menus and sidelining the mainstream supermarkets, and using lidl , a farm shop, and trusty home bargains for household goods, toiletries etc.
I am ashamed to say I was spending about £40 a week, there is myself,a dog and cat and three hens. I've cut down my weekly shop to £25 but pet food needs crop up, so realistically £150 - a month is for me a good target. I'll aim for that in jan and then get organised to drop more in feb.
Happy new year everyonenow debt free and determined to maintain good spending habits and build savings0 -
Just Popping in to report that so far I haven't spent anything on food for the past week or so -I shopped so much forchristmas that we've still got a load of food to get through, although fresh veg is now running low.
Reading a lot of other posts I'm not the only one in this situation!Trying to keep in budget.
