Thank you for the link to the lemon curd, apart from on bread what else can lemon curd be used for? Its something I had as a child but have not had in years.
thank you for any suggestions.
You are very welcome
My batch of lemon curd is in the slow cooker right now. I find that it is a lovely filling for a sponge cake. A lemon drizzle cake would be scrumptious with a lemon curd filling. Also, as upsidedown bear writes, it is yummy in a pastry case as a lemon tart.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Just done our final top up shop of the month. Needed fruit, veg, milk, bread, cheese, coffee, eggs , yogurts, juice and flour. Total was £21.89 so I am going to declare January at £172.09 :j:j
This is quite frankly amazing for us as it includes entertaining on New Year's Eve and a stock up AF order. This thread is brilliant :T
Off over to Feb GC now so hopefully see you all there.

Hi everyone,
Just back from MrT - spent £56.97 which along with paying back 2nd purse this week, means I'm over by £65. HOWEVER, this included a dinner party for 6 at the beginning of January, plus all food and drink for NYE so that accounted for £114.
We are away for a week in February and with it being a shorter month anyway, I'm going to reduce our budget to £450. This should be ample (famous last words) so we shall see.
I'll still be reading this thread until 31st January in case anyone wants to post their Feb budget

Welcome back florenceem, sorry to hear about your loss
Busy weekend with a few spends to report!
Mr M (Friday): YS rolls 50p
Mr T (Saturday) I was going to make veggie curry, but OH really wanted chicken, so as we're doing OK this month and he's been so good at watching his spends now, I let him get some: £4 on two chicken breasts they didn't have free range so I couldn't eat them, but I froze the other one for OH to have another time; £1 small bottle of coke; 84p two naan breads
Mr A delivery today - seemed to get loads for my money - it makes such a difference that OH has agreed to try out own brand coke for a while as it has saved us about £8! We also didn't need any meat, but definitely overbought on the veg front:
Fruit & veg SP apples x4 79p; Courgettes x2 47p; Parsnips x2 56p; Savoy cabbage 50p; Cauliflower £1; Growing coriander 76p; Growing thyme 76p; Chillies 50g 60p;SP onions 2kg £1.17; Half swede 25p; Fresh basil 65p; Romaine lettuce £1; Curly lettuce 67p; Little gem lettuce 88p; Cherry tomatoes £1; Bananas x4 43p; SP mushrooms £1.15
Dairy Whole milk 4pints £1; SP natural yoghurt 55p  this had split, not too much lost but will email to complain and probably will get a refund; Cheddar 1kg £5
Frozen SP oven chips 93p
General McCoys crisps 6pk x2 £2; Cashew nuts 200g £2.50; Noodles 375g £1; SP bourbons 23p; SP cream crackers 36p; SP chopped toms x4 £1.24; Tomato puree 48p; SP passata 29p; Pinto beans x2 78p; Tinned soup x5 £2; SP mayo 48p; White wine vinegar 80p; Asda coke x6 £3.47; SP bran flakes 88p; filled pastas x2 £2; Pine nuts 100g £2.50
Cat Cat food £1.28; SP cat litter x2 £3.16
Household & Toiletries SP scourers 19p; Toothbrushes x3 50p; Shaving foam £1
Total inc. delivery at £5 £52.21.
Bizarrely they also sent me some comfort fabric softener, I didn't order it but neither have they charged me for it. Don't use fabric softener so might give it to someone who does.
Also dropped by Mr M to pick up some veg oil (£1.50), which I'd forgotten to order, and they had YS outdoor reared sausages at half price!! So excited as they've never done outdoor reared pork before, normally have to go to Mr W. Picked up two packs for the freezer at £1.40 each.
Making soup, bread and other goodies just now
EDIT argh, just totted that up and I'm now over at £201.77!! But don't feel too bad as we won't need anything else til after 1st Feb and it was the sausages that put me over, but just couldn't pass that deal upPart time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

What a day! Feel like I've never stopped tidying - even been getting rid of roast trays and stuff that I don't use to make way for my lovely new le creuset one that I'll be treating myself to :A
I've been in the shops again yesterday and, including my few little bits in lidl the other week and my lunch out, my new total is £84.90 so far for the month. I shouldn't need anything else, so could declare £84.90 as a total, but will wait and see what happens - have asked my mum to order me a box of butter and a tray of chicken when she does her big stock up, so could add another £40/50, depending on the day it's delivered.
Dinner today was a M&S roast chicken (reduced to 50p) that we had with creamy mushrooms and lots of lovely veg (including sprouts, to put a smile on 6yos face). It was delish and the mushrooms that are leftover have been repurposed into a delicious soup that I'll have for my first break tomorrow. Some of the rest of the chicken will go for a chicken, mozarella and tomato salad for my dinner - it's a 10 hour shift again tomorrow.
Lunches for my daughter are also sorted - she's taken a liking to wraps with cream cheese and cucumber, or chicken salad.
7.4% of the year is gone and 3.5% of the budget, so I feel that I'm doing well.
Florence, you are in my thoughts.0 -
Big weekly shop as usual; £29.43 in Mr A was very pleased with that as seemed to get a lot for the money inlcuding a few things not on the list - they have the bix boxes of crunchy nut on offer for £2 again and homepride sauces £1. Also spent £4.77 in Mr S. Total now standing at £145.25 but forgot to get crisps for OH so will have to go in the week - hopefully won't spend too much else!
Oh no, also got ikea meatballs so another £4.30. TOTAL = £149.55
Hopefully less than a tenner in the week and I'll manage under budget!0
