The RBS gold account services are going be changed from 17th Feb.The Home emergency cover was excellent and used it two weeks ago.The guy came with in 35 minutes of call and fixed the problem. The Lloyds bank account offer emergency cover but the account costs 25 pounds.I am undecided where to go as co-operative has got 0844 number for their services.I have now taken Home emergency cover from chase templeton for 35 pounds. Will look into ulster bank as suggested by parkview094.

The Ultimate reward current account from the Halifax saw a similar cull of benefits last year with a £2.50 price increase. I can't remember off hand what went but I think ID aware was one of the products to go. Seems to be a common practise across the banks to revise and remove products that are simply not used enough to be cost effective. Makes sense.

But Eagleeye should note that Home Emergency Cover is still available on the Halifax URCA.

Cost of £10/month if you have 2 direct debits and credit at least £750 per month; £15/month otherwise.

yeah sorry - that was one of the benefits they kept.

In fact, if you meet the funding and direct debit requirements, you could use their switching service which is offering £100 until the 3rd of march.

You'd effectively be getting the first 10 months paid for.

Glad someone mentioned this as my letter also seems to have gone astray - yes the benefits/vfm now seem a lot less attractive - will probably scrap our membership too - shame RBS seem to be shooting themselves in the foot a little; alienating some more customers - we've been with RBS since we got together as a young couple back in 1976.

We were disappointed with the loss of many of the benefits associated with the Royalties Gold account as we made very extensive use of ticket booking service. However, we still use many of the benefits associated with the account and have recently saved around £300 on a holiday booking compared with prices elsewhere and they don't charge fees for using your credit card. [The holiday discount works best when booking with specialist operators which don't normally offer discounts]. It is also nice to start your holiday in the airport lounge.

The travel insurance packaged with the account is EXCELLENT. When we got stuck at Heathrow in the snow a couple of years ago they looked after us well and refunded the full cost of our holiday within six weeks as we weren't on a package. Last year my wife had an accident whilst visiting the USA and they looked after us well again - although we did have to settle the excess directly with the hospital.

As the account is now closed to new customers, I'm hoping they won't phase it out for the rest of us. The account is less attractive than it used to be but we still make use of some of the benefits and travel overseas around five times per year.

The Green Flag cover also came in useful when my gearbox fell apart whilst driving through a city center. The recovery vehicle arrived within 20 minutes.

At £155 per year I feel the account is still value for money. Unfortunately the ticket booking service is now only available through the Black Account which costs £24 per month (and I don't earn enough to qualify).

Hi can anyone tell me how they were informed about these changes? I don't recall getting any correspondence through my door, email etc. I contacted RBS Royalties last week to claim my sons Iphone 5 but was told the Insurance Company had changed and you could only claim 1 phone now instead of 3. Thanks:)
