I'm off to uni in September. The studying bit isn't worrying me too much as I've been doing NVQs and HEFCs for the past few years before taking this step so I'm not out of touch with studying, it's the fact I am a 'mature' student that is freaking me out a bit!

I'm 33 (but with a January birthday I will be 34 a few months after starting uni) and have a husband, 2 kids and a mortgage!

How old do I feel? VERY!! :o

best 4 yrs of m'life, cliche but true. Oh happy days, not that Id want to do it again now lol!

I still get well nostalgic when reading threads like this though :)

I remember when my folks got into the car and drove away on that first day, it wasnt not as scary as I thought, you kinda feel ready for it and there is so much support on offer at all levels.

My advice is to throw yaself in and enjoy it, you'll find you'll end up going with the flow initialy but as time passes you get more control over it all lol!

And of course, this wouldnt be MSE if we didnt say - watch the spending!!!

Its easy to get carried away with less careful friends, some people i know racked through the cash so quickly, then onto the CC and then God knows where it came from...

Remember healthy food is often the cheapest too, get a huge bag of pasta and rice, get cheap fresh veg etc. When it comes to boozing, the best thing to do is have a £3-4 bottle of wine at home before going out, or better still - realise that you can have fun sober!

I'm about to graduate and I turn 30 in a couple of weeks. Don't worry about being a mature student! There's people of all ages on my course, and the generation gap isn't as big as you fear. But do be prepared to explain who Wonder Woman is and that Bob Geldof used to be a singer :rotfl: No, seriously, I had to do this...

And... I'm going right back again in the autumn! I start a PhD at the same place. I'll finally be moving into my own place, hooray! :j

Thanks Sarahb and Ytaya - it's nice to hear about other 'mature' students.

I joined the Yougo forum from Ucas and couldn't belive people saying they were going to be so old when they started Uni because they would be shocking ages like...........21 and 23

Trouble is, they are all talking about looking forward to being away from home for the first time (I left my parents house 14 years ago) and partying every night (not something I'll be doing) and it's the first time that it hit me how different my life is from most of the rest of them :o

I'm sure I'll be fine once I settle in though :)
