  • Hello all

Was just told about this today. We had a together mortgage from 2006 to Dec 2009 when it was redeemed. Unsecured loan of £8K.

i dont have any of the old paperwork unfortunately but the direct debit shows an 8 digit accout number.

However i read on one website that interest is only repayable from October 2009 to present...is this right? Only 3 months for us then if we are at all eligible

The issue stems from changes to CCA legislation in Oct 08 so hopefully 15 mths for you.....
  • I've had 2 unsecured loans with Northern Rock over the last 7/8 years. One for £10k and one for £8k. One is still running and one was paid off 2 years ago. I've just checked the account numbers and they are 16 letter numbers on both.
I havent had any letters sent, will this apply to me?
    They call me Mr Pig!

I must admit I've had my doubts too, the figures didn't stack up against my own calculations, the time scale was far too early and the poster claimed the money was paid into their own bank acc which contradicts NRAM's information.

Then again, why would anyone do that? Maybe i'm a little naive but I couldn't imagine someone would post such a thing. Even for sh1ts & giggles.

I kinda thought this was strange as the load start date and the amount was nearly the same as me but the "refund" they said they got was no-where near the interest I had added up from my statements from the dodgy time period nram are talking about. However, I thought fair play to the guy if he's received a refund really quickly. I am now reverting back to my initial reaction of "eh, think this us a wee joke!"

Apologies if it isn't a wind up and the poster has received a refund into his bank account but shame on them if its a silly prank!! Plenty of stuff in this world to have a wee giggle about or take the p**s out your pals but I know most of the posters on this thread are in a bit of a pickle with nram and stuck with negative equity and whilst most of us are not complaining in any way about the mortgage we have (we signed it, got the house, now lumped with a "toxic" mortgage as they say) but that small glimmer of hope of some of that negative equity balance shrinking a bit is enough to make me - and probably some others - a bit more hopeful of getting free from the nram mortgage a but quicker. If that"refund" person has simply played a joke on here, it's really quite a horrible thing to do! I'm most Definately not going to lose any sleep over it but just had to vent a bit about why any reasonable person would want to do that. Grrrrr. Shame on you!

Anyway, moan over. Back to my ros! tinted view of the world tralalalala xxxxxxxx
On my way to well earned riches (I hope!) :T:T:T
  • i spoke with nram today when paying my monthly payment i asked what to expect after receiving my first letter.
i was told to wait the 8 weeks as they are still investigating what loans are due redress.

i had a mortage for 180K and loan of 12K in aug 2007 fixed at 6,85% for 24 months now currently 4.79% for past 40ish months.

would i be right in thinking using the above figures my redress could be £1500ish :j. that would help my negative equity!

My account number is 5835X-XXXXX however the letter stated a different number that Nram didn't seem know the number that was stated on my letter but picked the whole account (loan & mort) with my normal one, i guess the other number is just the loan reference.

Received my first letter 12th Dec but it just dated December 6 more weeks and ill start calling.

    Good Afternoon,

Has anyone who paid off their mortgages and loads with Northern Rock received a letter yet?

    Many Thanks

I would also like to know if any ex-NRAM customers have received a letter yet.

I contacted NRAM a week before Christmas and they said they were dealing with existing customers first and then those with redeemed accounts but would have written to everyone affected within 2 weeks.
  • Hi Davross, I'm an ex customer recieved my letter 10 days ago.
  • My wife has had 4 letters and I have had 4 letters, all four with differant account Numbers (we have 5 loans on mortgage) could have saved money by just sending 4 to us both rather than 8, but fingers xsed :)

Bigkev , yeah sounds about right , I am in a similair place but they are saying i dont hve an agreement in place and i know i took out an extra 10k to buy a second property ( as you do/did )
  • Today is exactly 3 weeks since the issue was first raised so maximum 5 weeks until this is sorted.

However, I would have thought that Nram would be on the "front foot" before announcing the whole issue to the press especially as they have quantified their liability at £270m so hopefully we won't have to wait too much longer.
