Caught speeding in excess of 40MPH in 30MPH zone - TWICE!!!

Hi,

Ive just received a notice saying that I was caught speeding in excess of 40 in a 30MPH zone on the 20th Nov at 6am.

I believe I may have caused the same offense in last week (Dec) at the same location/same camera. There was a flash behind me so I expect I was caught and should receive another letter soon.

I admit both cases. What will be the punishment?

I need the car for my job (its a company car). Its a road which is constantly busy and cars are constantly speeding back and forth in excess of 40. However, that is no excuse. I was stupid.

What are the chances of a ban?

I'm told that the min penalty for driving in excess of 40 in a 30MPH is 6 points and a fine. So if I get caught twice (the latter is still not confirmed but likely) does that mean I will get a 12points and automatic 6 month ban?

Driving for over 10 years and this is my first ever offense. Massive wake up call, got complacent. I deserve a punishment but I don't want to be banned since I will lose my job.

  • A ticket for each offence is looking favorite.
  • When did you receive the letter? 21 days have elapsed since the alleged offence.

For 42 in a 30 or less, you'll normally be offered a speed awareness course for one of the alleged offences if in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. Courses aren't available in Scotland.

The other offence may be dealt with by way of fixed penalty (£60 and 3 points) unless above the usual threshold (50 in a 30) when a trip to court would be the result, with a higher fine, more points and costs/victim support charge.

I thought that with a ticket I got earlier in the year, trouble is that the 21 day limit applies to the RK, which in the case of a company car could be the company or the lease company - Not the driver

Opt to go to court and face the judge. The judge may decide to only give you 3 points for each offence.

Isn't this type of offence a straight forward 3 points?

As Kingstreet says, Up to 42mph should earn you a speed awareness course. Over 42 and under 50 should be three points, 50 and over will be down to the mags to decide. If you get a speed awareness course for the first offence, I'd expect three points for the second offence if the admin is all joined up.

For 30mph, a trip to court is usually only required if your speed was 55 or above, or if you have already got 9 points or more. Between 50 and 54 can usually be sorted by correspondence, (all assuming a guilty plea)

Are you the registered keeper, and is your address the address to which the vehicle is registered?
What is the date on the letter?
