Done my number 3 now, again on the phone. Took about 20 mins (had to sit through the full account opening script) but the agent was very pleasant to speak to, and I called during my free 0845 time, so didn't clock up any phone bill. All in all very painless and worth my while if they keep paying at least 3% AER.
Excellent - now it's just a matter of keeping track of six vantage accounts! I had to draw myself a diagram of the £1,000 cycle to make sure I got it right.

LOL, yes, know exactly what you mean, I had to draw a picture, too, for the monthly transfers!
I use an ancient version of Microsoft Money to record each and every transaction on my accounts. I do that all manually since many of the automatic interfaces stopped working since Microsoft stopped maintaining the software years ago, but I still find it a fabulous tool for keeping track of multiple accounts. Suppose you could achieve the same, if not more, with a hand-made spreadsheet.
The other thing to watch out for now is any change to the T&Cs, like e.g. any need for DDs, like HBOS will have for their "free fivers" account from next May.0 -
Well I now have a BOS Classic account open and have the user ID. For some reason the temp password didn't work, though when I got on the phone to the internet banking helpdesk, I used it after pressing forgot password. Oh well. Oh and the phone numbers I added I can't use for a week to make payments. I have also upgraded it online to Vantage.
I tried this evening to apply for another - it said 'Sorry we can't offer you a secondary current account'. Seem to remember the same problem (maybe due to time of day) with LTSB additional accounts.0 -

You can do it on the phone - have to sit through the whole 'making sure it's the correct product' talk but it's not difficult.
You can only open one account a day.0 -
Hi Guys,
I have been a long time lurker and have decided to bite the bullet and join in! ha!
Just been reading this thread as i'm with BoS and have a Reward account which pays £5/month, however I'm thinking a swap to BoS vantage would be more suitable for me as my account usually sits anything between 3-5k. Just logged onto my online banking account to see if i could switch. I clicked upgrade reward account and it only gave me the option of switching to a silver account with a fee of £9ish/month. is there a sneaky way of changing the account? or will i have to apply for another classic account with vantage? Or would i just be better calling them.0 -
There's obviously a very good reason why you're wanting to throw £60 a year away? I'd be interested to hear it.Just been reading this thread as i'm with BoS and have a Reward account which pays £5/month, however I'm thinking a swap to BoS vantage would be more suitable for me as my account usually sits anything between 3-5k.
Or maybe you don't know you can hold more than one current account?0 -

No I do know, I guess you could say I was being lazy and want things to be as simple as it can be - i am easily confused! Anyway I do have a bog standard current account also with BoS - I could possibly set this up to be a vantage account and then set up a standing order from my reward account to deposit 1k a month ontop of the 5k that will be in there? (I think i may be getting the hang of this).0 -

Just think of the Vantage as a savings account, not a current account, and cycle the £1K necessary each month for the higher rate of interest. I'd avoid SOs though, and make the transfers manually.
Thanks YB.
Why avoid SOs? I intended to put 5k in the (vantage) account and leave it, then set up a SO of 1k into vantage and next day 1k out back to reward account, so 5k remains in the vanatge - just meant i didn't have to remember to log on every month. Maybe there is an easier way.
I should be able to log into my banking account and add the vantage onto my current account?0 -
In your scenario given, if your SO leaves on the Thursday before Good Friday the SO back from Vantage won't be actioned until the following Tuesday after Easter Monday. This means you'll be earning nothing on your £1K* for 5 days. Why avoid SOs?
"Every month"!? I log into my main current accounts 2-3 times a week!just meant i didn't have to remember to log on every month.
* Surplus funds should be kept in a linked savings account until needed...not in a current account paying zilch! I'm with Halifax and use their Online Saver paying (me) 2.8% AER. Maybe BoS have an equivalent?0
