Can you get one way travel insurance?

Does anyone know whether it is possible to get travel insurance for a journey which is one way?
Ie I'm taking valuables with me, I want to be insured on the way but as the holiday is for over 60 days I don't want insurance for the whole holiday - but equally I don't want to find that my suitcases don't arrive and I have no insurance.
Anybody got any ideas?

I would keep all valuables in hand luggage and having no insurance whilst away would seem foolish to me in the extreme but each to their own.
Are your valuables covered away from home by your house contents insurance?0 -
i don't think you can get insurance for a one way flight but if you ring up your local travel accents i'm sure they will be able to tell you.

Insurance won't cover any valuables in checked luggage - hand luggage only.
Seems a little risky only have insurance for part of a journey - what happens if you fall ill and need to be repatriated ? Costs for that could run into tens of thousands, and you will get the bill.
A number of online companies off short term insurance which is what you are looking for - I think Tesco (for example) offer insurance by the day.
If you've booked a trip you should get insurance asap - just in case something happens to you and you cannot go. You'd be covered for a full refund.Legal team on standby0 -
You can't just insure part of your trip though can you? While they may offer insurance for 1 day, that's generally on the basis that you are going and coming back within 1 day.
As to not having insurance being "foolish in the extreme" - there is a good reason why insurance companies are enormous and rake in the profits. The majority of insurance holders claim far less than they pay out - you are in effect gambling. I also don't really get why it's seen as such a necessity when you go abroad, but not for while you're in the UK? (Medical insurance under certain scenarios aside)0 -

I prefer to think you are gambling that nothing unexpected will befall you if you don't take out insurance. I'd much rather pay a small premium for peace of mind - unlike the countless people that come on here bleating when they are in the doo-doo because they took the risk of being uninsured

if you only want insurance for your luggage etc on the outgoing leg of your holiday, can you not just insure yourself for the minimum term (ie a couple of days) with any of thousands of holiday insurance companies around?0

I wouldn't say the act of not paying out constitutes gambling. Do I therefore gamble that I'm not going to win the lottery because I don't play?
I do agree with you though - if the premium is actually small - it just depends what level of risk you foresee. I wouldn't insure an item worth £1000 if the cover costs £500 - despite me not having the money to fork out £1000 should it be lost/stolen. Nor I imagine would most people. The point I was really trying to make was we all have different ideas of where the grey line between being worth the premium and not worth the premium is - and people on here (not necessarily you!) often berate anyone who's "grey line" is in a different place to them.0 -

I'm pretty sure you can't just insure part of your holiday like that though - with the major companies anyway. If you cover yourself for 3 days then it's only valid if you go away for 3 days (or less). It won't just cover the first 3 days of the holiday.
Though I remember getting winter sports insurance for 1 day while I was already away on holiday, so maybe there are some niche companies that will offer such a thing?0 -
It may be easier if you actually say what your doing where you are going etc?
By a one way trip do you mean you are emigrating? Are you staying with family/ friends and just dont know when your coming back or what?
As vague help based on the vague request then your home insurance MAY cover the items if you have Personal Possessions cover0
