On ice the narrowest tyre will win.
    Be happy...;)

I didn't wait until the middle of winter, I started trying to get them the third week in November!

Unusual size maybe? They are becoming more popular here now though so hopefully supplies will be easier

No a winter snowflake marked tyre will "win" (whatever that means!) on a stopping or steering contest all otehr things being equal. Narrower smaller diameter tyre are usually preferred for serious winter driving but here in UK its the compund teh tyre is made of that makes the greatest difference
  • Well after reading this page I did some research and thought it's about time i got some winter tyres, so I did my researches went to a few on-line site cos I want them fitted as well and guess what, my vw dealer in Huddersfield was one of the cheapest beating etyres and blackcircles. So tomorrow I will get four new Dunlop Winter Response for £300 for my blue-motion polo :)

Lots of black ice on the road early this morning on way to work at 5.30am. Very slippy, car sliding all over the place.

Just wondering if Winter Tyres help with black ice or not?
nothing can grip ice no mater what colour the ice is.

Nah, I remember seeing an ABI rule (agreement?) that winter tyres don't need to be notified subject to the normal rules about being the right size etc

As long as they match size and speed rating recommendations from the car manufacturer there is no issues with insurance.

In my experience winters invariably have a lower speed rating than the equivalent summers.

The ones I bought don't. They match the original spec exactly.

Sorry, but that is just plain nonsense. The grip is relative.

Winter tyres have a better grip on ice than summer tyres. Studded winter tyres grip even better. These things, well...

  • ^ Are those studs legal on UK reads? :D
