Are you going to teach your children to be just as polite as you are?

    What was wrong with that?

(ETA - children? Do you know something I don't?!)

Thinking about it, learning that there are situations where its ok to tell a harmless lie is a pretty valuable lesson.

Seriously? You have to ask? It was completely dismissive and rude to someone offering you their opinion, that you had asked for.

Are politeness and social skills too 'mainstream'? :D

No, but myself and others have corrected this misassertion that we are set to "put the kibosh on Santa" several times on this thread.

Having been up all night with a sick child I have neither the inclination not the energy to repeat myself, yet again, for posters that don't get what the actual situation is.

And I did say thanks for the post.

Something we learned as children was "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

Although I think we got it from a Disney film and they're probably forbidden in your house too, at a guess...:rotfl:

Not forbidden by any means. They aren't presented as documentaries though. ;)

Well, I've spoken to Santa with regard to this thread and his message was quite clear...

i think one of the underlying issues with this thread is truth and lying - i've stated before i don't celebrate christmas, for personal reasons. Whilst it all good saying keep the magic into christmas, keep kids in their childhood as much as you can, there comes a point when reality has to kick in - why on earth would you take your child to see some random bloke dressed as "santa". Surely in this day and age, protecting your child should be paramount, rather than perpetuating a myth?

What has 'protecting your child' got to do with seeing santa?

Huh?! Sorry are all random blokes now kiddy fiddlers?
My word on the one hand we modern parents are accused of helicopter parenting and not allowing our kids much needed freedoms and now seeing Santa has safeguarding issues. You just can't win.

Skintchick yes I agree that Jesus was a real person. Do I believe he was the son of God? No but not really sure what point you were making? Are you expecting me to say no?

Person-one I agree about learning white lies. All those saying telling a lie is a lie......do any of you always tell the absolute truth to EVERYONE? Or do sometimes you tell those white lies to spare people's feelings (I don't mean people on the Internet, lets face it far easier to be honest when it's not face to face, much harder doing it to someone's face where you know it could cause offence).
