Do water butts make financial sense?

1000 litres of water cost approximatley £1 on a meter, maybe more.
Get a £16 butt from tesco that holds 175 litres
You'd need to save 16,000 litres to break even - that's 91 full butts of water.

Over several years I guess it would work out!

Don't just think financially, think environmentally as well!
  • Wickes now have a special offer on water butts. The 200L one is £17.49. The SKU ("skew") is 194674, and the offer should be on until 8th July 2007.

Ring the store and check before you go in.

Well the one I saw was in a Tesco extra, but it is not on Tesco Direct http://direct.tesco.com/q/N.1999856/Nr.99/Ns.P_SORT_Price/No.40/btnResultSort.x%3d27/btnResultSort.y%3d6.aspx the cheapest one here is 20.97.

Have you got a tesco extra near you?

Just got my water butt today from Blackwall via Yorkshire Water online.

It took about 2 weeks to come, I was busy at the back tidying up and noticed a large water butt outside front door.

It took about 45 minutes to fit, I was a little unsure about us taking water downpipe off an cutting a 3cm gap to fit the plastic thing that catches water to butt. I got one with stand, lid and attachment for water to be caught in downpipe. Almost £40 inc postage

I have to check now it works lol

Does anyone know where it is possible to buy cheapish water butts? Either online or in Hereford/ Worcester area? I am asking on behalf of my elderly dad who is a keen gardener, but is finding one too expensive to buy.

Have you tried your water board? Most do cut-price water butt kits. We are Severn Trent and got ours from them - admittedly it took A YEAR but we were pleased when it eventually arrived!
