plus size smart/wedding clothes

hiya everyone :hello: i have been trawling the internet over the last few days trying to find something nice to wear for my wedding to mr angchris. it doesnt have to be a wedding dress as such as its a civil ceremony by a river bank so i was thinking i`d maybe get away with a really nice posh dress. i have found a few sites online but most places sell horrible frumpy tent like outfits :mad: this site is looking the best so far as they stock some quite nice white/cream dresses that i could wear as a wedding dress (was thinking of the white lace gown with matching shrug, what do ya think? )and other dresses that would be fab for the evening do. http://www.curvydiva.co.uk/cnb/shop/curvydiva?merchantPageID=24&op=merchantPage-merchantPageDisplay
has anybody got any suggestions as im rapidly losing the will to live :rotfl: just because i am of lets say more than ample size doesnt mean i dont want to look lovely on my special day...thanks in advance for any help angchris

Have you got any family members that are good with a needle and thread? I'm most definately built for comfort and not speed and my Nan made my wedding dress. It was more personal and covered a multitude of sins better than any shop dress!

Some of those dresses just hang from above the bust and have no waist, you might find something that goes over your chest and then flares from there flattering as a top and then a skirt to match.

unfortunatly nobody in my family can darn more than a sock :rotfl: and i wouldn`t know where to start to make one for myself... on past experiences of me sewing up ds`s school trousers i need to buy a dress :rotfl:

i think the dress you mentioned is lovely!

If you want to play it safe, any dress that is empire cut (seam under the boobs rather than waist) will look great! A shrug is also nice if you are wanting to cover the tops of your arms.

sorry conflicting post to the one before! have you tried to try styles in the high street? at least it'll give you a better idea what to look for.

I have had a look at the dress you mentioned and I think its really lovely. but another option would be to go and speak to a dressmaker and see whats what there styles, prices etc. but I still think the dress on the web site is lovely.

the shrug or sleeves of some description is a must as i hate showing the tops of my arms. tbh i haven`t even bothered going into any shops as it depresses (sp?) me clothes shopping at the best of times and can only find stuff to fit in evans for normal day to day clothes, the thought of stepping foot in a wedding shop with my mum and the assistant looking at me thinking "not a chance" frightens the life out of me.

Have you tried running a search for " plus size bridal shop" and seeing if there is anywhere local? On of my workmates was a size 32 when she got married and managed to get a stunning wedding dress from a shop who specialised in it - she was able to try on lots ad because it was their speciality theasistants werent snooty or horrible

Alfred Angelo definitely do wedding dresses up to size 32 and there is a shop called Country Brides in Gloucestershire that stock Alfred Angelo dresses. wow thanks for all those links, will check them all out when i have an hour or so to myself this evening, have just found a plus size wedding place in bristol too :j it looks like i have now got alot more choice, am feeling a bit better now as it was all just getting me down earlier
