One word of advice that some may already know...BT say don't take any notice of offers and prices if you are an existing customer...for example they offered unlimited BB for just 50P extra per month from the basic 10gb price !!

BT and Orange are usually at the bottom of every ISP consumer survey, along with TalkTalk.
So, if you're determined to choose from among the worst, you may as well pick the cheapest. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

My reply seems to have disappeared!?
At my exchange (SMEY) there is only BT then only Talk Talk on LLU and Orange (and maybe others) on BT wholesale lines. Virgin has got cable in the street as well.
Not really determined to choose from the worst. Apart from the above facts, I am disabled and have had to retire on ill health on a very small pension. Last year, on a very good salary, I could have had Virgin, for example, with all the trimmings.........:(
...bit judgemental Macman?? If money was not a criteria, who would you go for given the limitations at my exchange?

I'd go to Sky.....
Recently I've called both Virgin and BT for friends having problems as they felt I "spoke the language" and TBH I found both of them incredibly frustrating both in time to answer and standard of service -both got there in the end but it took forever which was ridiculous as I'd already done all the basic troubleshooting before calling.
Looking at the long term most seem to lock you in for 18 months of contract.... a few do 12 months which gives you more bargaining power in the long term -a point to consider.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -

Not 'maybe'. Hundreds of others...you have the choice of every BT reseller in the UK. If money is a factor (which it presumably is, or you wouldn't be on MSE), why would you choose (just to quote one example) BT over Plusnet (same nework, better CS, cheaper)?
My comment was not 'judgemental', I'm simply advising what these surveys have reported.
If you want the cheapest regardless, then TT is the obvious choice, but you are on your own if you need tech support. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
duchy: OP does not have Sky LLU on their exchange though, so they'd be offered the dire Sky Connect (BT Wholesale service). No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Orange is vastly improved since BT Wholesale provide it, at £14 landline charge then internet ontop if you can get a deal go or it.
Perhaps consider BT for Vision or YouView (if you go Vision take the £4 package as you can upgrade/downgrade to the £12 package as needs be)
For future speed upgrades consider: EE/Orange Fibre is expensive, when for about the same you can get Vision or Youview from BT.
Finally you get a discount on line rental with BT paid in advance. Orange dont do it.
Customer service are both crap, but a email to the BT CEO works alot faster than a email to Orange/EE Executive Office.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
Having been at the mercy of both, I'd opt for BT... but only if I were pushed to choose, as there's not much in it. As others have said, really I'd want to go elsewhere. I'm finding Virgin to be very good, personally - but every company has its share of customers with poor experiences.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0

I would sugget BT (via Plusnet) as the customer service at Plusnet is goodbaldly going on...0

Just to re-iterate, I have had Orange unlimited BB for years increasing from £15 to £20.42 per month. Then BT line rental and BT anytime calls. WIth LR and calls choice = c £36 pm
I asked Orange for a MAC code and they immediately offered me unlimited BB + Line Rental + Anytime calls + 500 minutes to mobiles....for £20 per month for an initial 12 month contract.
They cocked up moving the line over twice, (and gave me a bit of compensation) but it is now happening on the 17th and BT have written to confirm this.
BT have come back with a match for this for £25 per month (and I like the idea of the Hotspots) BUT I believe I am contracted to Orange for the new package now as the 10 day cooling off has passed!?
BT say there is no contract until the line is switched over and to get another MAC from Orange........
I may regret this, but I think I will let things progress and take the Orange pack for £20 pm which should normally be £38 pm!!!!
