Wow - 2 for 2 at 100% , several weeks in now, I can't believe I actually spend more time cleaning than I do tidying as it stays mostly tidy.....I may send DD1 up in the loft when she comes home to bring down one box a day and do a 27 fling boogie on that......there is stuff up there that hasn't seen the light of day since i moved in 6 years ago
on the downside, I cannot get a tiler in before the holidays, so I am resigned to having the downstairs loo cupboard installed, and the loo mounted on plywood as a fixer=upper until after I have recovered from my section, and then get a tiler in then in the spring
:(:( at least I won't have to try and leg it upstairs with DS or v@x carpet for "too late" moments
Right DD1 is ready for a skype now, so I may be back for a lurk or a fly by night later
hugs, sticks and spoons - delve in!The cold never bothered me anyway0 - Clean windows in these areas[/STRIKE] all bedroom and landing windows done - insides only

Freezing fog here and -2  Don't think it got above 2 deg all day.. I know the frost on my car was still there from last night when we got home, from visiting relatives, at 5pm.
Decluttered cheese and crackers, updated next years diary with various appointments, and updated address book.
Am going to write the rest of the cards while watching Haven, and then go to bed with a horlicks I think.

I have done a washload and dried it all (on E7 - was done before work;)
anything that needed ironingis ironed and I have washed pots.
Old shower curtain draped over car windscreen - am thinking of changing route to work to major (gritted) route as I have slid down a steep hill two mornings running. Just to add an extra frisson the steep hill has a sharp right-hand bend at the bottom. The Vallimobile has glided round the bend more by luck than good driving...
Been to DD's GCSE certificate presentation evening. Prizes (well congratulations and certificates of achievement) are handed out to those who did very well in a subject - very proud to boast that DD won the ICT prize!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Great news Valli well done to your clever daughter.
DS3 now has crutches. DD2 is delighted to be on top bunk. This is how I know DS3 is really in pain as he's managed the steps every other night. Fracture clinic on Thursday, so glad I'm ahead with my Christmas plans.
DH managed to ruin dinner. Raw chicken because he bodged the timing. All the bread for tomorrow's packed lunches was eaten filling up hungry tummies.

Wednesday - Living Room, Hall and Stairs
Level 1
[STRIKE]Vacuum floors[/STRIKE] and sofas - washed stairs
[STRIKE]Clear any clutter from stairs, don't want any accidents[/STRIKE]
Level 2
Dusting, even if around everything
Clean TV, other electricals and cabinets
[STRIKE]Water any thirsty plants, wipe their poor neglected leaves, don't want Christmas visitors seeing dusty plants! [/STRIKE]
Level 3
[STRIKE]Wipe light switches, sockets (make sure they are not switched on) and banister[/STRIKE]
Clean any other glass like mirrors, pictures etc
[STRIKE]Tidy shoes, coats and bags, clean any that need it, shine (or dust off/remove cobwebs from) those party shoes ready for Christmas parties [/STRIKE] bit miffed one of my best gloves is missing and my best scarf has had all its threads pulled :mad::mad: one of DD1 thigh length boots is missing - you would think that on a fling boogie a stray boot would turn up ????? DS wellies and shoes pegged together again - great time saver in the morning - one umbrella binned as broken spindle that needle and cotton cannot save -
Extra Mission: pick one or more of the following tasks:
- Vacuum under furniture you can manage to move without hurting yourself
- Clean a window or two.
[STRIKE] - Hotspot clearing time, or at least spend 10 minutes tackling one[/STRIKE] mantle piece
[STRIKE] - Ring someone you love, just to tell them you love them!![/STRIKE]
-
[[STRIKE]*]Make a timetable for christmas prepartions.. turkey in.. turkey out.. etc[/STRIKE]
Turkey out of freezer
:D:eek: - no food poisoning on my watch thank you very much
the green patio table comes inside day before ready to hold all the vegetable dishes well away from the meat eaters end of the dining table (nothing can ruin a dinner quicker on any day of the year than a veggie complaining a meat eater has dripped meat juice on their dinner :mad::mad:) -
Patio table gets a good wash/dry and sterilise - with nice ironed tablecloth.......both patio and dining table get moved into living room night before
pig in blankets (and pigless blankets) prepared and covered with foil in fridge day before
potatoes are peeled and in salt water day before, start boiling them and parsnips at 10am on the morning
turkey cavity wiped with kitchen towel then stuffed with salt, pepper, onions, lemon, oranges and sage/thyme (I swear I can smell giblets no matter how much I wash the cavity) always goes in oven on timer overnight to start cooking breast side down at 5am - get in for the cheap leccy :money::money::money: turn right side up at about 10am and loosen the foil, usually ready by 11am to rest while a tray of meaty roasties and a tray of veggie roasties with parsnips go in and the vegetarian main (usually baked cinnamon butternut squash or moroccan spiced vegetable tartlets with homemade pastry)
At 11 hob starts all the vegetable sides like cauliflower & broccoli cheese, honey glazed carrots, mashed swede, red cabbage and apple, brussels and chestnuts, peas & sweetcorn, microwave handles homemade cranberry sauce, bread sauce and sage & onion stuffing - as each veggie side is done its into a lidded casserole ready to microwave piping hot to table -
Roasties and veggie main usually ready by 12, then pigs in blankets go in, and come out around 12.30
last in oven is homemade yorkshire puds at least 2 trays worth - (delicious tradition to pick at with cranberry sauce later in the evening) while everything else is going to the table, as turkey goes in on serving plate make a vegetarian gravy from granules (I do cheat on this!) and then proper juicy gravy from the roasting tin) -
I carve turkey for meat-eaters, then its a free for all - everyone chooses a plate of their leftovers for Boxing Day - cover with foil and a name label (save arguments of "she had contaminated my dinner!")
Then usually 27th is when DD1 and DD2 have their friends to stay to over til New Years Eve and its the same sides and trimmings freshly made all over again - but friends choice of Turkey, Beef or Dr Pepper Gammon - except potatoes and veg are all peeled that day as all the friends and DD1 and DD2 get roped into help - this year it's Dr Pepper Gammon and they are down just for the day - lots of leftovers of veg, but I will be lucky for any Gammon to be left by 8pm :rotfl:
when I look at it on screen it seems exhausting, but I have done enough of these over the years, it runs like a well oiled machine - and DW gets a thorough work out, but the sink does too as I turn the pots and pans over as quick as I can while the cooking is going on
[*]Spend 30 minutes just having time for yourself, whatever it is doing, because we probably won't have time next week
[*]Chase up any deliveries you are waiting for that have not arrived
[STRIKE][*]Update remaining present lists[/STRIKE]
right time for bed now - enough flying by night for one night - although I should never say never to a stupid o'clock session
hugs, sticks and spoons to all, help yourselvesThe cold never bothered me anyway0 -
Having a very busy week where I am not getting much done...! 2am on Wednesday morning I'm finally sorting a list. Phew, not as bad as I thought!
Kitchen
Wipe & replace small appliances such as kettle, toaster etc (wipe under too, especially the toaster!)
Water cacti
Bedroom
Get husband to put his washing away (can't go in his wardrobe as my presents are there)
Extras
Clean all paperwork, shredding and clutter from next to sink.
Spend 10 minutes clearing coffee table hotspot. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
SB, you clearly have your schedule planned to perfection! And I do so agree with you that forward planning is the key. When I lived on my own, in a tiny house with a tiny kitchen, I used to cook a 3-course meal one Sunday a month for any number between 8 and 20 people, and planning and preparing everything in advance made it really easy.skint_breeder_5 wrote: »Christmas Extras

I have two 3-tier steamer saucepans - only cost about £9.99 each when I bought them from my local supermarket ten years ago, and they're still going strong. They save space on the hob and electricity and have earned their keep many times over
Your tips on veggie non-contamination and Boxing Day leftovers are great :T
But I am so relieved that you cheat on one thing: I was beginning to think that you were a domestic goddess, and now I know you're normal :rotfl:
Thanks to everyone for all the GWS vibes. I'm delighted to say that the ABs have worked and the worst of my toothache has gone
and I am gradually working my way through the flylady lists. We're down at the railway today, but with only 2 trains to send off there will hopefully be time to write the UK cards this afternoon and get them in the post tomorrow. The few to be sent to friends in Europe who have no email are going this morning. While I'm writing cards, DH can tidy his desk and his bedside cabinet
I am leaving all major flying until tomorrow and Friday, by which time the last of the eB@y items will be off my hands, taken to the CS, or stored away for a car boot in the spring, and I shall be able to see carpet again.
Then the tree can go up :xmastree: and all will be ready for the two DGSs' visit next week :xmassmile :xmassmile
Well done to Valli's DD.
CY, I'm sure your DS will be a great godfather.
(((Hugs))) and spoons to all who need them, especially Mumto5 and Dusty's DS.0 -
Morning all
Very frosty here so I'll need to wrap up very warm for my walk today.
Just doing morning routines. 3 hour gap in the middle of the day for flying so should achieve something later. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0
