Ok, reboot normally - what happens exactly now? Does it go staright to the recovery options or is there any error message first?

It's just the same Windows Error Recovery.

Lauch Start up Repair (Recommended) or
Start windows normally.

Either takes me straight into the Windows Repair thing.

I think it best you try and recover your files at this point.

what os did it come with originally, do you have the win7 disc

Can you explain OS to me? It came with windows 7 inbuilt, I never received a disc with it.

OS = operating system, eg win7.

should have a factory restore partition, possibly accessed by pressing F8 at boot, but you need to backup your data first using a boot disc or usb disk caddy

I've been trying to reboot using F8 and failing. I'll try the back up thing, can I use a USB stick? I know that is probably a silly question but I have no discs.
