Help With Laptop

Hi, was wondering if anyone could help me rescue my old laptop. It switches on, is extremely slow, and when it does eventually come on it goes into a windows recovery mode and then does nothing. More than anything I am hoping to rescue my music files, photos and a few documents.

Tap f8 at startup startup, when you get the advanced boot options choose safe mode - Can you enter safe mode?

Nope. F8 is just taking me to the windows recovery enviroment, when it gets there it just stops doing anything. I will try again.

System Recovery options? What happens when you choose startup repair

It may be the same thing but it is calling itself Windows Repair Environment, when I click start repair and then click next it doesn't go any further. Just stops.
