    If no joy we'll try a system restore - you should find that option under reinstall windows - Do you have backups of your data?

    What's the exact make/model of this and OS (I'm presuming vista)

    No I don't have back ups, yes I know that's daft :o

    It's an advent Roma 2001 and it was Windows 7.

    X:\windows\system32>if exist c:\applications CHKDSK C: /F
    X:\windows\system32>if exist d:\applications CHKDSK D: /F

    I'll leave it for an hour or so see if anything happens.

    It says: To use system restore you must specify which Windows installation to restore.

    Restart this computer, select an operating system and then select system restore.

    Reboot, f8 > advanced options > command line > type:

    rstrui.exe /OFFLINE: C:\windows

    Note the spaces between rstrui.exe & /OFFLINE: & /OFFLINE: & C:\windows

    Click enter
