I missed a delivery on Friday, and had a card shoved through the door. Checked the opening hours (open until 2pm on Saturdays) and went to pick it up the next day. Got there at 12:28 to find them locking up. Apparently, for the festive season, they're closing earlier a lot!
Surely, at this time of year with the amount of parcels being shipped around, if anything they should be extending the opening hours?!
Also, Saturday was the 8th Decemer, surely this is way to early to be going home early because "it's Christmas".
And, if they insist on being lazy and finding any excuse to pop off home early, could they at least do what they did last year and have Christmas "while you were out" cards with the appropriate opening hours? My local sorting office is a complete pain to get to, and had I got there at 1 as I had originally planned to, I would have been VERY annoyed to find them closed!

I have never heard of DOs shortening their hours in the Christmas period
The Christmas P739s go live from today

Neither have I, but the Castle Bromwich office was definitely closing 90 minutes early on Saturday, and this was on a copy of their Christmas hours poster that they had up in the office. Didn't get a chance to look at the rest of the hours due to being rushed as they were closing, but was told by the guy behind the counter that they were "closing early a fair few times over the next few weeks"

I've had a good response from the Twitter @RoyalMail when I had cause to make a complaint... worth a try!
  • I have tweeted them, should be interesting.

I didn't opt out and I still get cards left saying they've been returned to the depot :-/
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

I'm astounded - last year my local office was open to 7.30pm every weeknight during the festive season (instead of just Wednesdays) and I was quite glad of it! Wonder if they've made the dangerous assumption that far more parcels will be left next door?
I need to think of something new here...

I do hope not. Have got to drop my son to nursery in an hour, and I'm expecting a delivery, so Sod's law, I'll have one of the new cards popped through when I get back and I'll find out.
It really annoys me that the RM website doesn't display the opening hours of the DO. There's no way I'm paying stupid amounts calling them, it'd make much more sense to display this info on their site!

You haven't opted out but your neighbours might have.
If this is the case then any package for you that can't be delivered will have to go back to the depot.
When you have an opt out sticker, this means that you are opting out from having items left with a neighbour and also from receiving items that are intended for your neighbours.
