Parents told by school to buy their children iPads
Read more:
From the article:
"Hard-up parents were left furious after a school asked them to fork out hundreds of pounds on iPads for lessons and homework.
Staff at Rossett School in Harrogate, North Yorkshire told children to ask their parents to buy them the £300 tablet for their work.
But the request has infuriated parents......"
I'll bet it did! I know this is from the Daily Mail, but it does seem to be true - there are quite a lot of details in the story.
Anyone else think that this is bonkers?

Whilst I appreciate that being up on technology is important, it would be interesting to know if there's a link between the standard of handwriting and the ability to do mental maths declining because of the over reliance of computers, calculators and the ikle.2014 Target;

Now, if I had my way, i'd be asking all parents to buy their kids a Raspberry Pi - a tiny linux computer you can plug into TVs that only costs £30.
ICT in schools has been a complete joke for many years0 -
I bet there's more to this story.
I think having access to a computer of some sort is vital these days, preferably with internet access. Maybe the school suggested iPads as an alternative to a laptop or a desktop?0 -
The school is in a very expensive area of Harrogate - not exactly a pit village! It's also an academy specialising in IT and maths and does pupil exchanges with Japan and America.
Sounds like a lot of middle class pips squeaking......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Why specifically an iPad when you can buy cheaper and argubably better android tablets or a laptop.0

I remember another poster recently commenting that they had been asked to buy iPads for their children to use at school and to be left there after the children left. I thought it was incredibly cheeky and a very unrealistic expectation but tbf the poster seemed to be happy with it.
Sorry, no idea which thread it was now!
Here we are, it was an off topic post which is why I'd forgotten https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/56798411#Comment_567984110 -

in a world where we are dominated by e products, voice technology is now common place and there are advances in think technology, how would having tidy handwriting provide any benefit?
i know its odd, but the need to write by hand is almost non existant nowdays.0 -
Perhaps it's a case of incorrect terminology? Many people use the term 'iPad' when they mean 'tablet'. It's possible the school meant to suggest any kind of tablet for a gift?Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug).0

Well I think the Daily Mail is bonkers, yes.
But even from what you've posted about it, the school asked, they didn't tell, the parents they had to buy ipads. Is it a slow news day in the world that this is in the papers?0
