  • I'd be more worried about his attitude and cheek than the state of his bedroom ;)

As the others have said, leave it. It's his space and his problem.

You don't need a book you just need the words "get your bedroom tidied buddy or you're grounded for the next week" as long as you mean it...it works.

Three 3 MATHLETTS (aged 12,11,6) have to:

Make their beds daily, hang their towels to dry and open their window to air the room
Strip their beds on bed changing day
Dust & tidy their rooms (has to redone if it fails my Anthea Turner test) LOL. Providing they tidy once a week I don't nit-pic if it is untidy in between times.
Bring their dustbins down for recycle sorting on bin day
Put their laundry away which I leave clean and pressed on their beds
Bring their hampers to the laundry room at least twice a week

The older two also remake their beds with fresh linen but I still do littlies.

  • Wow math I am impressed, but I am with the dont sweat the small stuff school of thought. I take a washing up bowl up once a week and insist they put all cutlery and crokery in it. If they dont put thier clothes in the wash including school stuff on a Friday night, then they have to wear them dirty now. The result is they have learnt to use the washing machine.

I stopped trying to get my two to tidy their rooms, I just shut the door on it, but I did warn them that if I got low on cutlery/plates/mug/glasses I would be entering/checking thier rooms......No washing would be done unless bought down .... fair warning needed to be given if xtra hungry/not hungry etc
They soon found friends didnt like mess.....mum would moan or break things by treading on them cos they were hidden in the mess trying to find mugs .. clean socks would run out & last nights dinner served again the following night 'cos they forgot to let me know they were having tea at a mates, was not appetising......
They are both tidy lovely people now BTW

Firefly - I do have the teenagers one I mentioned it in my post - glad it is good I am still working through it.
Aurora - you hid the nail on the head. It isn't about his room, per se, but his whole attitude.
Math - you are lucky - I probably didn't get him doing it early enough for easy transition, but as Aurora pointed out - this isn't really about his room, but his attitude. This is about him being stroppy that I need help with, then it was his room, today it might be homework - or no sky sports for the Liverpool match last night!

Mum had the same idea, 'do it or it won't get done'. Consequently, me and my younger brother were tidying, making beds, hoovering, ironing, washing up and cooking by the age of 12 (brother was 10). That's how we got our pocket money.

Patchwork, put your foot down and keep it down and he won't have an attitude for long, he's just seeing how far he can push you.
