Not eligible for the hsbc basic account?

I popped into the local branch today to ask about getting this account and the salesperson refused me, saying that as I had a good credit history and accounts with other banks I was not eligible for the basic account. I just want to check this out with more knowledgeable peeps as the salesperson was quite pushy on the current account and transferring all my DDs over.
Just to add, I have online bank account sand just wanted a basic branch account for paying in easily, with access to coin machines.

If you request to open a basic bank account then they should.
They was probably just trying to hit a sales target.
You can apply over the telephone 0800 032 4738:

Staff just dont like opening basic accounts and like putting people offFor everthing else there's mastercard.
For clampers there's Barclaycard.0 -

Speak for yourself. Customers with basic accounts still have a need to save, insure their homes/life/family and also further down the line sometimes can have their account upgraded.0 -
More like the staff don't get commission from basic accounts and as such don't want to open them. They want you to have a 'full banking relationship'.0

I'm not certain that commission is necessarily involved, but the target culture is definitely to blame. Some banks stating they're abolishing targets are disingenuous, they'll replace them with something else, equally sales-related.0

Of course they will because they are plcs and have shareholders to satisfy.
But is there any organisation out there that doesn't have targets?
Simple answer to the basic bank issue is reward staff for selling them, never understand why they don't in the first place to be honest.0 -

What advantage does a basic bank account have over an ordinary bank account to the customer and/or the bank?
I can see lots of things they don't offer. Lots of missed opportunities for the bank to make money from the customer.
The only advantage of an HSBC basic account over an HSBC current account appears to be the their basic account can be used at Post Offices. The downside is that basic account holders can't withdraw cash over the counter from HSBS branches.
However, even their current account holders will be able to use Post Offices from Spring of next year.0 -

As well as a basic account only has a cashcard. So atm use only. No purchases... No overdraft.
You still get access to telephone & internet banking. So you can more money via faster payments etc.
Given that the OP seems to be inplying he has a normal acc with hsbcJust to add, I have online bank account sand just wanted a basic branch account for paying in easily, with access to coin machines.
Given the OP has a good history, then opening a std or basic will make no diffrence to what he wants.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

So I can see why they won't give him one. Basic accounts are designed for people with poor history.

It just means an unnecessary credit search when in essence they only want a basic bank account.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
