That bugged us too, all the replacement activities were much more sedentary and the idea that golf was a cheap replacement for rugby - are they mental?!

Just had a thought Dinah, don't know if you've heard of the 5:2 eating plan? You eat normally for 5 days, then restrict to 500kcal for 2 none consecutive days a week. Meant to be good for steady weight loss but more importantly decreasing blood pressure, as well as other health benefits associated with diabetes, cancer etc. More clinical trials are ongoing so not sure if there's any medical backing yet, and assume it wouldn't be recommended during pregnancy - but maybe before then?
I've been following it for 3 weeks now and it's fine. Not weighed myself yet, but will check out my BP when I'm next at the doctors and see if there's a difference.

Hey Archers, I've just started doing the 5:2 too! The more I read about it, the more sense it makes, so will see how it goes... At the moment it feels really sustainable and definitely worth it if all the supposed health benefits are proven.LBM Sep 2008 debt: £27,927.04start weight: 140.2, week 2: 1380

I've been thinking about that 5:2 diet but every day I decide that I'll do the 500 cals I give in around mid-morning as I'm staaaaaarving! :rotfl:Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0

Whereas I look at it and think if I eat 'normally' as in about 1800 cals on the other 5 days I'm going to gain weight or at least loose slower compared to the 1200 I eat every day now. It's a shame the website doesn't give more details about health benefits other than loosing weight.
For anyone not following Zig's diary we're looking at a meet up for anyone who wants to come in early May. I've suggested Leeds based on where the Northern girls live, but if anyone else would like to come this is a flexible location at this point so speak up! If there is anyone from the south looking to make the trek up we could maybe move it to York for example, as the train price is within pennies the same for Zig to Leeds or York, and I know booking in advance there are a lot of sub £30 deals from London and it takes about 2 hours which is what Zig, Lucy, NIM and I would be looking at already (bloody Northern trains stopping at every village and them roads with only mud no tarmac and all those horse and traps slowing down my flintstones car)Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

When were you thinking? I may be away 3-5th may working. I've got a meeting this morning to fill me in on the details and from there I can decide whether or not to go. It may be too much of a trek for me but on the other hand it would be good xGoals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000
