hi. weird that you've just posted this, as i was about to ask everyone exactly the same thing! am 5 months now, have looked at some in mothercare, but its a total minefield - this is my first of course, and they all look the same to me. Am tempted to get a travel system, but have no idea whether i'm gonna need all that stuff? should i get a seperate car seat? Not sure if this thread is in the right place but would appreciate advice from someone whos been there - me and OH want avoid hard sell from scary shop assistants! Also on a tightish budget and have a tiny car (old micra)

As you both have small cars, I'd be surprised if you'll get a three wheeler in the boots. I just manage to get the Mamas and Papas pliko in my Fiesta's boot. The shopping net is fairly useless imo.
We got the matching car seat, so it snaps onto the pram - and that was extra money - but the safety rating is excellent. However, it is very heavy - especially with my now 4 month in it, and I find myself taking him out of it and carrying him rather than detach the car seat if I'm popping into a shop etc
We do have an M&P 3 wheeler too, but I can't fit it in my car at all.

As for travel systems, that's really up to the individual. We had the carrycot option, and I used that for day time naps - but he now well outgrown it, and it's in the loft. Bear in mind that newborns are supposed to lay flat as much as possible.

katym79 - as you are in Leeds, it may well be worth your while going to the M&P factory shop in Huddersfield - it's about 5 mins away from junction 25 of the M62, and is open on weekends.

Ellawood - measure your car boot carefully and let us have the dimensions? The pliko claims "Size when folded: H 83cm x W 43cm x D 56cm"

http://www.kiddicare.com/ is always worth a look, as does http://www.nurseryandtoys.com/
    This looks fabulous! http://www.nurseryandtoys.com/invt/27798

There is a pliko on sale on the website, but with no extras for £175

    Ladies,

I'd research this really carefully before you go and purchase a pram/buggy/travel system. I've spend over £1400    on prams in the last two and a half years looking for the perfect buggy. Reality has kicked in and I realise how much money I've wasted !

I bought a Mamas and Papas 3-in-1 system for my dd when she was born which had the advantage of having a large shopping tray, a pram, a buggy part that clipped onto the chassis and a car seat that did the same. That has been used loads though and my chassis is about done in. The pram part was used as a moses basket as well.

I then bought a Mamas and Papas Pliko second hand from my sil which was great but fell apart on me. I progressed onto a Quinny Zapp - biggest waste of money - had a wow factor but didn't recline and tipped up if you hung bags on it. I did get most of my money back selling this one on e-bay though.

With the money from the Zapp - I bought a MacLaren Techno XT which is brill - it can be used from birth but you can't clip a car seat to it and the shopping basket is smallish but you can hang bags from the handles.

Lastly - if you're thinking about having a family close together - I can thoroughly recommend the Phil and Teds E3 which can be adapted to a double or single seater. I needed a double as there was only 25 months between my two.

From the car front - go to a local Pram Centre with your car if you can and you can try them out. These places tend to be cheaper than some of the big chains like Mothercare which are a total rip off. If you decide to go for a separate car seat - go there, get the advice then buy it somewhere else !

Lastly - become a buggy stalker and ask friends, families, strangers if they like there prams/buggies - what they like/dislike etc. I've been known to even ask for a cheeky shot !

Hi have you looked at the bebe loola set, we bought the pushchair and its fab. It fits into the new mini boot which is very small. You can also buy the car seat or baby seat creatis to us with the frame. We tried to but from ebay, prices were ok but always got outbid. So we bought from baby2travel.com Despite a delay in the delivery it turned out to be a fab deal. The puschair and creatis go for about £230/250 on ebay. I think you can buy it from argos to.

I had a Graco travel system when DD was born which saw me through DD and DS. I've got a Corsa and the pushchair would only fit into the boot one way, but once I got the hang of it that was okay. Used the car seat every day until they were both about 1ish. No problems. Excellent value for money, tray underneath was quite big and the system itself was easy to push around.

I've also got a Mothercare buggy which was about £40 and was bought purely because it was in zebra print fabric (sad I know). That has also seen me through both children, in fact it's been used even more with DS as it's light and easy to carry around. Not much of a basket but you can hang bags from the handles. I'm dreading when DS gets old enough to not have the buggy because I'll have to start carrying my own shopping again!!

    Jxx
And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

As you all seem to know better than me (my son was 14 YEARS old earlier this month) suggestions welcome.

    He wants 3 wheeler.

I want reversible seat, not too heavy for lifting, shopping basket for trips to village but easy to fold for school trips am/pm as often have to part quite far away. No preference for car seat but would like carrycot option. Car is an estate so no problems there!

Last one was a Mclaren 3 in one car seat brill, reversible seat and got lots of use out of carrycot but sadly McLaren don't do much in this line anymore.

P.S. Son is still at old school from when we moved so much to far to walk as he is disabled - 6 miles.

    Hi

My daughter is 13 months now and this is my advice. Get onto freecycle. I got a Mama's and Papa's 3 in one (carry cot, pushchair and car seat) for free (value £700 new!! It was 6 years old but worked.). The pram was fab but too big for my Polo unless I put the seats down and baby on the front seat, but I wanted a carry cot as I hate travel systems it is not good for baby's to be in car seats all the time. We walk all the time and it was perfect for that.

I then got a Nippi pushchair from Mama's and Papa's it was about £80 but laid flat so was ok from birth and fitted in the car, this has been fab and we use it all the time now.

Do not spend too much money on them, everyone I know has traded there £600 pram/pushchairs for buggys after 6 months because they are just not practical as nice as they look!

On the Pram the pushchair attachment can be fitted facing the pusher or facing out.
